A friend sent me a link to this video on YouTube ..... Hollywood Blvd. At the start it says Hollywood Blvd - 1953 but later on I see a 57 Chevy and 57 Cad and those seem to be the newest cars so I'm guessing it was filmed in late 56 or 57. At 2:28 I spotted a lowered and primered 49-51 Ford convertible with skirts and shaved door handles parked at the curb. Don't know if this has been posted before and if it has, I'm sorry for posting it again. Just thought it was a cool waste of 4 minutes.
awesome, thanks 1) WTF, the blue t-bird driver near the end? 2) Went to Hollywood Blvd yesterday, sadly doesnt look the same.....
What sticks out to me is all the windows rolled down and the vent glass turned in...A/C will spoil you for sure
I believe there is a 58 ford in there as well. Got a glimpse of the shoebox with shaved door handles and skirts .. T bird nearly gets T boned
Convertible Kustom Shoebox to the right parked about midway through the video...thanks for posting this just fabulous.
At the minute mark, funny how the driver made the women in the crosswalk stop for him while he made the turn, LMAO. Try that in Miami today and you get shot.
The newest car I saw in there was about a 1958, so that was probably when it was done. California drivers were crazy even back then ! Cool video. Don
That was cool to watch because it's something my parents lived through. They were both in their early 30s during that period and my dad drove a 51 Merc Covert with steel packed mufflers, spotlights, wide whites, etc.....
That was cool. I really miss LA, would love to get back there. Can someone drive around with a GoPro for an updated version? To make it easier here is a rough google map, gets lost with the edit in some places though hahaha lets see if this works... <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="https://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Hollywood+Blvd&daddr=34.1016291,-118.326788+to:34.098016,-118.3266503+to:34.09799,-118.33867+to:N+McCadden+Pl+to:6161+Hollywood+Boulevard,+Los+Angeles,+CA,+United+States+to:Argyle+Ave+to:34.103562,-118.3266873+to:34.1016282,-118.326937+to:6321+Hollywood+Boulevard,+Los+Angeles,+CA,+United+States+to:Ivar+Avenue,+Hollywood,+Los+Angeles,+CA,+United+States&geocode=FThZCAIdSljy-A%3BFX1ZCAId_Hny-Ck5TVFsOb_CgDE1hftKX4UBHw%3BFWBLCAIdhnry-CnRcavbOb_CgDHeSxqMivXXUw%3BFUZLCAIdkkvy-CkzECCzJb_CgDF0wUsV1qJgkA%3BFS5ZCAIdLFLy-A%3BFYpZCAId3ITy-CmDgISKOL_CgDEdeoxM1Q2CsA%3BFZ5hCAIdJoDy-A%3BFQphCAIdYXry-CmjgKY7Ob_CgDFOz7OR4pycXw%3BFXxZCAIdZ3ny-Ck5TVFsOb_CgDE0hftKX4UBHw%3BFQlaCAIdB3fy-ClPW-NrOb_CgDFmb93Yo9lG2g%3BFZBZCAIdpHTy-Cn_mqZEOb_CgDGxOo-5fH1ydA&aq=0&oq=hollywood+ivar&sll=34.098888,-118.327904&sspn=0.017893,0.026157&hl=en&mra=ls&via=1,2,3,7,8&ie=UTF8&ll=34.098888,-118.327904&spn=0.00576,0.01469&t=m&output=embed"></iframe><br /><small>View Untitled in a larger map</small>
Anybody else notice that light blue '46-'48 Buick convertible that kept changing lanes and reappearing?
sure did ... she was a nice looker.... andy it kinda still looks like that .. hollywood and highland is the same , theres some landmarks
I was watching the Buick as well, although it appeared to be green to me. My wife says I am color blind,I know my son is color blind.
I think that comes from the way the film was edited. You see the Buick making a right turn at 1:43, followed by the 51 Ford, then the green 52 (?) Merc 4 door pulls up behind the Ford. These are the same cars that are at the start of the video and should have been after the sequence that ends at 1:56. I've watched it several times looking for the 58 that "Don's Hot Rods" mentioned but didn't see anything newer than 57. My dad owned a bowling alley in Redondo Beach and some time after he sold it, he managed Hollywood Legion Lanes in Hollywood, which was converted from a boxing arena into a bowling alley. At 0:09 I noticed a "BOWLING" sign on the right side but don't remember which bowling alley it could have been. I know that at one time there was Sunset Bowl but believe that was in an old movie studio on Sunset Blvd.
The marquee at the Admiral has John Wayne's The Searchers on it which was 1956 so my guess would be that is what year this was shot. Cool video thanks for posting
"The Searchers" did come out in '56.... March of '56...so with all the people in coats and seeing quite a few '57 models in the clip, I would say this scene was filmed somewhere just after September '56. 'Cause that is when the new models came out.
Wow cool times. I love how the Hamb has come through and figured out exactly when the film was created. Only the Hamb can pull it off.
"Friendly Persuasions" starring Gary Cooper at the Iris and playing at the Admiral is "The Searchers" starring John Wayne and just around the corner is James Dean, probably in "Giant"...Not a bad lineup! Buick at the 3:10 mark runnin' a "very" bright yellow and the impatient driver in the T bird 'bout taking one to the right side. Some things NEVER change!
