Some time ago I scoped around on here and asked if there was such a thing as 16" Plym type cone hubcaps.... Aussie Steve PMed me and told me a bout an NOS set of 57 Plym style cone hubcaps that he had from the Hollywood Hubcap Co, so i snapped em up. Well they turned up yesterday in the original box ....man waht a trip !! Then I open it up and pull out four (count em) primo NOS hubcaps that were exactly as he described them (thanx Steve.) Now get this....the newspapers that were wrapping each individual hubcap were 1962 & 1963 Colorado newspapers. I was interested in reading about the Pope dying in July '63 and how JFK was offering his condolences little knowing hed be blown away less than a few months later. Kinda weird.... Anyway thanx for the caps Stever...they turned up in real good nick !! Cheers mate.... Rat
Eeeeeeee I LOVE those caps! Best not lose one going down the road! I ALWAYS read the newspaper that stuff gets wrapped in.....especially when it's from another country. It's amazing what you find or see. Sometimes those papers don't come in a friendly language so I'm left with pictures. xxx Brandy
I bet you could rig up a safety strap from the inside of your hubcap to the wheel/lug nut. That way if you popped a cap, it might get banged up dragging around but you wouldn't lose it.
16 inch? These aren't actual Mopar but are aftermarket, correct? I seem to remember that Chrysler Corp went from 15 to 14" overall for 57. I'd like to see how those would look on my 57 Dodge Truck (15" stock steel wheels)
These caps are 40+ years old, I doubt if the company still exists and if it does, the old fart running it probably hasn't got into the 'computer age' yet. I wonder if this is the same company that used to handle speed parts in the 50s. I remember something about 'Hollywoods' like exhaust or something?? JayD
I always read the packing newspaper too. Got a set of Edelbrock heads came out of trunk of 53 Ford I bought they were wrapped in July 8, 1956 Los Angeles Examinernewspaper. Tried calling some of the classified phone #s see if those old 32 Fords were still for sale for $75 but BEechwood 45789 no longer is a working number.
I had a set of the fake smooth '57 fury caps- 14"s. I guess they made 15" too, cause they showed up on a lot of rods in '60 or so. Those you got from Steve look different, they're neat though!
