Just picked this up. The car at the tip top of my bucket list. Sure she's rough, but the shell is solid and it's a good builder. Probably won't be doing much to it until my F-1 is done. Still pinching myself. Been off the road since '61 It's a standard with a deluxe hood and grille. Thinking about switching back to a standard.
Do you know where it was all that time? I have heard that one came out of a garage in Willi, for free! last summer. The elderly lady had 2 front fenders out by the trash, and someone stopped to ask if he could take them. That's when she said there was the rest of it in the garage.
Whoa! No mine came from Mich, but originally Wisconsin so she's got some rust. I do know about a 40 coupe that was a show rod that went for $7800 locally. Been stored from the 60's. Guy boxed it up in a crate all that time because he got sick of people asking about it.
Congratulations on a great find. Whatever you paid for it,it was a good deal. I've always been a Deluxe fan, but after picking up a '41 truck, I'm starting to like the looks of the standard more all the time. ANY '40 Ford is a good looking car. Hope you enjoy yours' as much as I do mine.
Oh Yeah! I love 40 Fords. Nice score. Now about the old lady throwing car parts out with the trash.... Does she have a sister?
Nice score, Good thing that it is on the far side of the country as that is the number one car on my wife's (her car) list. There is probably still some guy who was at Tulsa in 1973 with a Red 40 Deluxe coupe talking about the cute little blond that was stalking him all weekend at the Nats that year. If I lost track of her I could always find her over by that car.
Always liked 40s but never reallllly wanted to own one. Then I got one, 40 Std. Coupe, SBC hooked up to original transmission and rearend. Even after doing the transmission 3 times and the rearend once to change to 3.25:1 gears I always did like that car. Your car, I see, is a DeLuxe or at least has deLuxe hood and grille vent panels, so enjoy, enjoy, ENJOY!
A year ago near my dads farm in Southern Sask, this exact car was for sale, for $1k. All complete and original. Ran until 1989. Yes, I am absolutely kicking myself. SO many nice cars & trucks around there. You just have to know who to ask. But yes, very regrettful. He still has tons of cars from the 20's- early 30's, but not nearly as complete.
Nothing is cooler than a 40 coupe! The rear 3/4 view is the best angle. I like the standard better, but then I'm kind of biased!!
