I have read lots of posts about t5 trans swaps to get overdrive, and read a couple about using an auxiliary volvo transmission in a torque tube. Has anyone tried using a ford 3 speed put in backwards in the torque tube to get an overdrive? The ford box is quite small and I like the idea of home built.

I've seen 2nd transmissions installed, but to gear things down, not up. All of the conversions that I've seen had open driveshafts though. My model A had a second transmission in it, coupled to a "TT" worm drive rear axle. I guess the main question would be how much torque could they handle, in that set up. Maybe a later model top loader three speed just for insurance? There was a thread on using "divorced" transfer cases as overdrives, about a month or so ago. Maybe that would help you out?
    Good Luck!

I tried to edit my reply but it seems to have been lost somewhere, so I'll do it this way. There was a thread about a month or so ago about using "divorced" transfer cases as overdrives. Maybe that would help you out?
