Was given several pieces if 16 ga. sheetmetal and would like to built a "T" bucket type bed for my 25 Dodge bucket - Is this heavy enough for that type of project? - size will be 36 wide by 30 long by apprx 12 high with 1 1/4 round tubing for the top grab rail and 1 1/2 square tubing for the rear and front box support - hickory bed planks - non opening tailgate - any input would be helpful - Jaxx
16 is plenty heavy. stock is 18 i beleave. and for the bottom of the bed i grab some 3" pipe to roll a radius around so its not just a square corner
I just got a 30"x38" T bed from MAS. I stopped by Mustangs Unlimited and got a floor model '64-'68 Mustang tank for the bed floor complete with factory ribs and sender for $70. 24-1/2" x32-5/8" and 6-1/2" deep. I'm ordering Speedway's filler neck to match up today.
A local metal shop will brake mine to match a Ford design. 40" Long, both sides $78. Personally I think beds need a brake.
Check the Tech section, I recall there was a good tech thread posted where one of our brother-HAMBers built his own truck bed.
