Ill check my files I had a single seat that was rivtd together that was pretty cool a few years back it was made by an aicraft guy in the 60s
I see alot of these home built bodys that are made from junked car steel.Seems as long as it looks like something that could have been built back in the day it will p***.I kinda enjoy these cars more. There is some crafty guys out there with some wild ideas.
In the old hotrod mechanix magazine there was a step by step project they were building. It was a ford courier box they were making into a one man lakes mod.The magazine went TU before they got it done.Too bad it was lookin great.......Shiny

Heres mine made from a 31 Desoto more door on a Model a frame 37 Chevy column and wheel. It will get a 57 Chevy rear end.....Danny
Hey fitzee, thanks for putting the picture up of my modified. Here is some specifics of it. It was originally pieced together by the HAMB's very own Killer. It is made up of a 32 truck cowl and doors, with a T back panel. The cowl is narrowed about 8 inches. I made my own V-style windshield brackets. Has a flat aluminum sheet firewall. 59 F-100 steering. The frame is 2 x 3 tubing, the rear suspension is a 2 link designed by Killer which is very simple and should be quite effective. I have been busy working on it and it is much better looking now and further along than that picture. I am striving to get it done for the Billetproof show in a couple weeks. Lots of work left, but sleep is for wimps! To answer the original question of building your own body. Sure it can be done, it really is a matter of having the right equipment and skills to make it happen. For almost everyone, it is easier to start with an exisiting body or even partial body and build up from there.
i'm going to keep mine secret for a bit longer (til i get more done to it) but it is pretty WILD. i'm just gonna get the body roughed in then back to the model A.
Heres mine, not a hand built body, more one built from s****. The front is a 30 truck cowl, the doors are 30/31 2 door sedan, cut down and made skinny. The rear is a 30/31 sedan back panel, the corners are going to be hand made, as soon as I learn how to use a English wheel.
Hey, I thought all of you guys over there knew how to use the English wheel... you know, it is an "English" Wheel... Thank you folks, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress and please try the shrimp ****tail...
I had a friend I used to keep in touch with in New Zealand several years back-and he said we[americans] were kit builders.....He said he had to make everything he was missing himself from scratch cause ofm the lack of old ford parts and cost of importing them. there was a lessen in those words and we would do well to heed them. we can make our own bodies and parts just the same necessity or not! I fantasize[sp]about making the whole body on one myself- just draw out templates of the "flattest" side panels and sculpture in the raised "reveal" mouldings from 1 inch mild steel tube then weld it all up carefully taking my time......ah I can dream cant I? maybe someday!
[ QUOTE ] the corners are going to be hand made, as soon as I learn how to use a English wheel. [/ QUOTE ]If you rough out the shape with a mallet and shotbag, then smooth the shape on the English wheel,it shouldn't be a problem. You might have to get creative with the body line at the top of the panel.
Those wheels in that pic look like a set of Ford Ranger wheels. Early to mid 80's.....???? I am not sure, but they look similar to a set I have offa my old truck. JT.
PFF........when I needed rear corners for my lakes modified body I cut them out of a 40 chevy hood top. Now, I realize you probably don't have 40 chevy's in every farm field but a bigger, more gradual compound curve may come from a sail panel or C-pillar from one of your common english cars. Just a thought...
Thanks for the input, Rocky you got me thinking, I reckon I could use the hood of a Morris Minor. OGNC, yep they may be a "English" wheel. But Im Scottish, the two should never be confused !!!
[ QUOTE ] ... But Im Scottish, the two should never be confused !!! [/ QUOTE ] If you don't want people who don't know,(or maybe don't care), on the other side of the globe to be confused, change your location from UK to Scotland... Besides, an "English wheel" is like an English muffin. The British call both of them something different anyway!
Here is a pic of a '32 RPU body that a guy in Minnesota made. The only "Ford" pice on the car is the grill shell the rest is hand made. This is what a 4dr Sedan looks like after he gets done with it.
