    I post this on my build thread but thought I’d share it here. My pops and I are knee deep in a father/son 26 T roadster build. We both like traditional hot rods and I especially like to use parts the look traditional but are sort of off the wall. So on this build we have a 296cu 59-L with three carbs. My pops took care of the motor but his engine builder took the liberty of ordering frog mouth scoops. My pops and I both have cars that run scoops so I want to do something different. The other day I was looking at a flathead oil canister and thought damn that’s about the right diameter to fit on top of a carb. So after some cutting this is what I came up with. I ordered some stainless mesh and will powder coat the steel black. Now I have to find ant air filter element that is ruffly 4” across and 3” tall. Other than k&n what other company have a washable filter? Laid them out and used a unibit in the corners to get the round then used a small cutoff wheel to cut the rest out. Lots of die grinding and sanding after that.

    They'd look good plated in nickel, yes. That's eminently doable on a budget. The most expensive part is pure nickel welding rods from the hardware store.

    Painted, plated, however- they look nice. Well done!

    I like 'em! How about just a brushed finish with a matte clear coat and the mesh either the engine color or body color?

    Copper plating is easily done with a battery charger and a solution of copper sulfate crystals, found at garden supply centers.

  22. Nice work. I would have to consider sectioning the canister so they were not so tall, but they do look good.

    Consider black powdercoat and BRASS screen!

    Hey, rr;
    It appears to me the screen is a dbl layer. Correct? What mesh did you use?
    Painted, plated, unfinished - anything but rusty - will look good.

    Very nice , industrial looking certainly do not look homemade. I vote for gloss black to match your generator with chrome acorn nuts like on your cylinder heads.
