Lets see some homemade trophies. We are doing cruise ins and starting to give away homemade trophies each month. Here's our first. Mayor's choice last oct. 73381203_2777966218894313_1291197469895426048_n.jpg

Here’s one I got! And it’s my favorite of all the others! I know it’s nothing big, but it was unexpected! [IMG]

No pictures but easy to explain. I was a member of a car club for years that had an annual show. We usually had around 35 classes. All profit from the show went to charity so affordable trophies were important. I wanted to add an "unfinished" class and was shot down because of the cost of 3 more trophies.

Came up with the idea as follows: Took 3 old trophies left from years past that didn't have 3 cars in some class for one reason or another. Took them completely apart, removed the old description plate (1st Place, Pre '48 open Class, Sponsored by Bob's Body Shop) bought a new plate for "1st" "2nd" and "3rd" (1st, Unfinished Class, Sponsored by XYZ Car Club). Shot the gold or silver pieces with primer. 1 brown, 1 gray and one black. Stuck the new plate and the dismantled trophy in a big zip lock bag and sealed it.

The unfinished class was a hit, everyone liked their imaginative trophy and the club made money and got rid of old inventory on hand. Worked great.

I've never cared about trophies but ones like these, to me, are collector art....

Went to a little show a few years ago and after I parked and registered, a friend of mine came over and said, "Don't leave early, you've won an award". What, I said, but I just got here, how did I win something?....Turns out it was the 40th Anniversary of the Vintage Tin of Maryland club and I just by chance was the 40th registrant! They gave me this, which I treasure..... 20170130_160746.jpg

Not sure if these qualify as homemade and they aren’t made from old parts like a lot of cool ones I have seen...but these are the awards we typically give away at our Hot Rod Hundred events. I just happen to have access to a waterjet which makes them a little easier to make. And, then we either have them striped or in the case of the last ones, some sharpie art added.

I think (DANGER/WARNING) the handmade trophies made from car parts have the most meaning. I once made a trophy from a badly mangled rod and piston, the piston top had separated and made a great ash tray, I included a good cigar broken in half along with it.

Don't know if this qualifies as a trophy but it is handmade by my nephew for me. I think its pretty cool!

Looking good Duncan! I have a similar one that is my favorite and means more than any other I have ever received...same show and artist involved.

From July 2019 car show at BYU-Idaho (put on by automotive tech college). Vette took best of show. The OFT took best truck/off road. For entire show 5 trophies given out. 20190713_095814.jpg 20190713_124901.jpg

My favorite event in this part of the country, is the Portland Transmission Spring Classic. It's free, including drinks, cookies and hot dogs, a casual affair that lasts about 5 hours on a Saturday morning, for the last 37 years. Al Stewart was the director and made the half dozen trophies each year handed out for the 400 cars that showed up for over 30 of those years. He is a great guy, and I cherish ownership of his handiwork. Can't wait until Spring ! IMG_3584.JPG

  24. I made this hand holding the wrench a couple years ago for a local show. Push rods and ball bearings for the joints.

I posted these on another thread but here goes again. I had fun making them. And the winners really appreciated them. Gary IMG_1274.JPG cruise-3.jpg cruise-3.jpg badge-1.jpg

Here's the ones I did for last year's show that I put on annually at a local bar:

This is one of my favorites, given to one of my favorite local cars, a chopped Merc:

Found the small torch head at a swap meet for $5. I made the tanks out of Nailhead wristpins, one with a SBC rocker ball welded on top.
