Let me tell you about "honest businessmen". Before I was retired, I had a computer service company that supplied software and computer processing to small to medium sized businesses. Over half of my customers had me modify the software to add an automatic "bump" to shipping costs passed on to the customers. One guy did it by adding $.50 to all shipping charges. Another was so sophisticated that they knew which shippers published their rates so they knew whether they could be checked or not. Mind you, this was 15-20 years ago, and these were reputable, well thought-off companies. I can't even imagine what's going on these days. (I guess I can, given this guys experience.)

As the manager of a company who uses UPS often and has an account i dont think 10 is too far off. In state business to business for one lb is usually around 4-6 bucks. It jumps a couple bucks if you ship to a residence, not to mention serveral states away. USPS is the way to go for smaller items.

  4. Honest Charlie stepped up and made his customer happy. The customer says "I'll Buy here again! AND tell my friends to do the same."
Its time to let this one go people.

I'm glad that this was resolved to David's satisfaction, but I didn't read anything in this thread that even acknowledges what it was that made this blow up to begin with.

If the Honest employee that took the call when David first called about this had been trained in what to do in such a situation, then this would never have been a problem. It was expecting David to foot the bill for THEIR MISTAKE that crossed the line.

So, either (A) at least one employee doesn't know how to handle something like this, or (B) The employee was indeed trained to tell customers that they are to pay expenses when Honest makes a mistake.

Funny, this is THE best and CHEAPEST marketing that Honest Charlie can get! Less than $150.00 to show thier quailty customer service to a bunch of hot rodders? Mister Goodman, great job!

  9. Come on guys, not the shocks, granted, but $18 for a couple nuts and bolts? Bullshit. I don't think he's a crook any more than Charlie is. Everybody wins.

Well, maybe not a crook, per se... But definitely hoping to take advantage of a company's obvious mistake. And then, when it bit him in the ass, he came on here slinging mud. I guess if all parties involved are happy with the outcome that's good enough. BUT, something still stinks to me...

interesting read, I have a website for my business that I update and built myself.
I am human and have made mistakes, missed price updates and even gotten them wrong.
Where possible if somebody had ordered something and my price was out EITHER way(there was a new lower price or I had had the item under priced, I would still honour the low price)
    I sorted it.

the Honest Charley guys did a great thing....but possibly pushed into it a little?

lets flip it over, you run an advert in a local paper/tradingpost/autotrader etc for your car and they get the price wrong($5k instead of $15k) some guy comes around and says he take it.
Do you honour the wrong price?
it is an advertised price right?

most websites/catalogues have disclaimers saying prices are subject to change.

Some dont seem to be reading the entire thread, but oh well. I shared with Mike the Alliance Vendor link, so maybe we'll see him on there someday.

I have known Mike since we were 16 years old. My dad upholstered his car and I can truly say I am not at all surprised at his response. 1st class for the 40 plus years I have known him.

Congrats on screwing over some great guys. They don't have to honor price mistakes, but you successfully extorted the rest of the kit from them through the hamb and your post.

Hope that comes back to you tenfold.

18.95 for shocks and mounts? You were trying to get over and don't pretend you weren't.

    ditto!!!!!!!!!

Time to bring this one BTT! Mike Goodman sent the mounts and shocks and I just mounted them last night! They look great! Mike went above and beyond (pressured or not) and that says something about how they conduct business. Definitely exceeded my expectations and I'll keep recommending them to other rodders. I have more parts on the list to order from them. I'd be happy to put an Honest Charley sticker in the window of my ride. Don't hesitate to buy from these guys, they'll do what's right. I just read this whole thread and, although it is quite a few months old, I wanted to add my $.02.

I have been researching chassis for some time now and was referred to Honest Charley's by Pete and Jake's corporate office.

I called HC today to educate myself about the chassis and spoke to Mike Goodman hisself. He was thorough, professional, knowledgeable and just struck me as an all-around nice guy. I was on the phone with him for probably about an hour.

I was not surprised to hear that he handled this in a most professional manner and went above and beyond. Glad I found this thread -it reassured me about my upcoming chassis purchase.
