Who sells hood strap kits? I have my old set from hot rod leather but too short. I can get some leather and modify but looking to get a new set
Restoration Supply Company has an ***ortment of leather straps and accessories. WWW.restorationStuff.com or 1-800-306-7008.
Go to a saddle shop and make your own with copper rivets. Springs are from Restoration Supply, ss loops from West Marine and clasp is from a horse collar
You probably have some Amish/Old Order Mennonite harness shops in your general area that would have or could make what you need.
He p***ed away sadly. I have my first set from him and I might order springs and modify what I have. I need a little longer now and the springs should get me in the ballpark
There is an upholstery shot that calls it's self hot rod leather that as far as I know had no connection to him. High end street rod interiors. I'd agree that if you are close to Amish country a harness shop could make you what you need leather wise in short order.
What you are looking for is Veg tan leather and comes in many sizes. You can get belts from Tandy leather as I get sides and shoulders from them along with Montana leather . I make toolrolls and leather aprons and some other leather products. So I cut my own belts or straps out of hides. What width do you need and what length? Also thickness as I have 1/32 to 3/8 thick. The hardware rivets are available from tandy to lengthen your straps and have some as well on hand. If I can help let me know thank you john
Everything from Tandy leather. Strap, precut and different colors. Tube nuts and eyelets. Some proper diameter tube from McMaster Carr. Cut metal flat s**** to length and made width of strap. Placed on tube so it would be centered above the stock hood latch. Silver brazed the flat to the tube. Drilled two holes for the tube nuts to attach strap to flat. Cut 3/8" rod to length and affixed the top bracket... Drilled holes in adjacent tubes for a cotter key to capture rod. I stretched the strap lifting up the stock latch to mark the eyelet placement. The bottom of the eyelet at about the maximum extension of the latch so as to hold the strap taunt. Installed eyelet. Rounded leather to a radius roughly that of the eyelet. I still need to clean up the sides and dye the same color. Cheap alternative, holds the hood. No funky latches to deal with when the hood is open Sent from my XT1585 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Friend of mine does high end saddles, and holters. That width, he probably can make from drops. Decorative s***ching, tooling, riveting is everyday stuff for him IM if you want his contact info.
Thanks guys, all good tips. I ordered some springs from RS and have a box of leather tools, just haven't fooled with them in a while. John, I pm'd you on a tool roll.
