Just got my first Flathead V8 on the road and would like to run it without the hood. Unfortunately we get a lot of rain here in England and wondered what problems might occur with a drenched engine or what precautions I could make to help?

    Cheers

  2. Run good breathers, not frog mouth and a liberal coating of silicone on the wires would be advisable. HRP

  3. This is a long shot, but I caught a glimpse of a Model A coupe with what sounded like a flatty going by the Wanstead tube station on Sunday the 13th of July. I think the A was green. I also saw a 41 Ford Coupe in Woodford.

I was surprised to see Hot Rods in the UK!

I never run a hood on 3 deuces. Runs great in the rain...maybe even a tad better. My filters under the bonnets are home-made, fabbed from very fine stainless steel mesh. Paper element might be different...not sure.
While your moving, it shouldn't be a problem. If it's parked in the pouring rain for a long period, I would cover it with something.

I would use dielectric grease on all exposed electrical connections & all plug wire connections also. Enjoy your ride ................................

No problem if you just go faster. Problem comes in traffic & stop or parked. Lots of WD-40

  8. Never had a hood on my A and water has not been a problem for over 50,000mi. been through a couple monsoons too. I made my own air filter so it doesn't suck water, the electronics are out in the wind and never had a problem moving or parked.

I flip my scoop around and press on. And yes, the moisture in the air will make your carbed engine run better. I love an early morning, dewy drive.
