Looking for the correct name of hood strap springs and actual source. All the vendors have them but looking for who actually supplies everyone with them. Wanting to buy couple sets and find you actually manufacture them. Zig zag springs? Spiral springs?

If you have a local saddle shop, buy your buckles and leather locally. The coachman hoops source is West Marine

I am currently looking for the same info about the Z springs - for many months. I will follow this thread to see if anyone knows where to get them outside of Snyders, lymeworks, and hot rod leather.

Leather straps @ weaver leather supply
Collar fasteners @ Ohio travel bag website.

I can’t find the springs after months of looking.

I guess I don't understand why multiple members are looking to find wholesalers rather than just buying them at retailers. They aren't cheap anywhere but is there really some system to game here?

The springs are on page 49 I believe.

The same folks who will wail and moan when the retailers are no longer in business, I am afraid.

FYI Hot Rod Leather is gone. The owner passed away several years ago.

Restoration Supply was at Hershey and had all of this stuff.
A friend there was lining up parts to make two straps and it got pricey quick but the springs are $25/pc.
For the budget-minded of control freak(I'm the latter) I would recommend sourcing appropriate buckles and cut/edge the straps/loops and sew them up but use the Z springs from Restoration. Did some straps for a Frontenac T racer and the provided springs were stiffer than one would think - not typical DIY. If you don't know the leather or hardware jargon and how to stitch(or rivet) them or can't be bothered to learn then I'm not sure how one gets there from here.
I've seen people buy Goodwill belts but that just looks like a fashion belt on a car IMO. Nickle plated hardware is likely what you want for the proper look. Again, DIY or just pay the man.
I'd like to see the cars the OP and other searchers are building. Period matters.

Russ Furstnow in Flagstaff does a pretty nice job on leather straps and such.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I’m building two strap sets as gifts and want to save money doing so. I’m here to learn about my options relevant to my goals not be judged or to have my car judged.

Here’s the “game” I’m winning so far…. solid brass collar fasteners for $4 each (or $23ea “paying the man”) - I bought 12. High quality leather straps for $21 total (or $50 at the man) yes, these prices are at retailers.

I’ve got 8 straps built at ~$74 total so far, minus springs

Good luck with your builds, I hope they’re more period correct than mine.

Dreamer, you aren't being judged. Please feel free to show your work or projects. This is how sources and ideas become available to all.
Another step I excluded was having to dye the veg tanned straps I cut. $50 from the man is more than the whole 1/2 hide IIRC. Also, I made an edger out of an old butter knife that let me form that nice indentation along the edge. I was matching what was already on the car but there are several styles I have seen - some European.

Gotcha. I was going to run straps but found the costs prohibitive. I instead installed my full hood which is flawless. - I felt that having a perfect hood in storage wasn’t doing it justice. If I can find springs or an alternative, I’d consider going back to straps. I’m still trying to build the other two sets as gifts.
    There’s a 1932 banger under there.

Could you guys show a pic of the trans shaft pin setup? Is this in lieu of the female pivot that's priced as if it is so "hard to find"?

I'm putting a set on my HAMB era champ car that I bought from Lime Works. I have a couple of suggestions:

The anchors came polished. The latches were not. I plan to polish all my latches to match the finish of the anchors.

It was a bit daunting to cut the leather to the precise length so I used inexpensive waist band reinforcing material in my sewing things that was the same width as the leather straps for a mock up (white) - found at any sewing shop.

    I dog those white straps.

I believe My father used a self-tapping screw on his 30 hood with 32 shell. Bottom corners of the hood top… Zip zip, little paint on the screw heads and done. Looks clean.

it’s a pin about 4” long that uses the the hinge half on the hood.. it basically slides behind the cowl like a deadbolt..I used a shaft pin cause I have a bunch of them.. you can use any pin the diameter of the hood hinge pin. My junk is a hotrod, use the crap in the shop and make it work.. not that fancy overpriced jewelry and leather strap stuff.. not that there’s anything bad with it, whatever blows your skirt up is fine with me.
