    Hi All...
    Recently purchased a '50 mercury coupe...at least I think it's a coupe...maybe a 2 door hard top (is there such a thang?)...or club coupe...dunno...

but I searched the threads as best I knew how to...and was looking for info on mighty lift! the gas charges lift supports...for my hood.

I'd think someone has already done this...

if indeed...needing tips...as seems I’ve lost all my book learnin' from college physics cl***...

I weighed the hood at the front nose...as it a conventional rear hinged mount...weighed it out at only 25lbs...

the lift supports I'm installing is back about 6" in front of the hinges…how might I determine the correct lift supports? As far as supported weight? My thinking was 25lbs at the nose…2 35lbs gas charged supports would do it….but I installed them…and it didn’t even notice them… “it” being the hood.

    So obviously I’m mathematically challenged…

    Might someone have some tips?

    Thanks

    Ed

I have done the exact thing you want to do. If you wish you may email me and I can send pics of my hood and gas lifts. I received my info from a HAMB member. The modification was a breeze with his help and I am willing to p*** the info along to you. The gas lifts were from a ford F-250. I can lift and shut the hood rather easily without slamming or getting a strain lifting it.
