Probably use chevy steel wheels, chevy caps.I have the sheet metal for a belly pan and fairing for the axel and hairpins. The way it looks now is growing on me though. The custom part of me says more but the hotrod side says less. This being a single place I'm thinking the more primitive the better. The body is 49 52 chevy hood, split and laid sideways, chevy door skins, and a 50 chevy truck hood in the rear, split and laid over as in the front. Some 46 truck hood,a little 40 ford nose, and a few s****s from whatever was laying around.

that's awesome. but i would stay true to the original mockup. i really like the vision in that, with the windscreen and bellypan. it'll look like it's straight out of 1947...

awesome, realy looking forward to seeing that thing bombing around.one more vote for the bellypan, but most would probably not even notice being entranced by that awesome tube work on the inside!

Another vote for the bellypan here. The mock-up looked more balanced that way, and seems more in keeping with the style of the rest of the car.

    Either way, awesome project.

Not to get in and out but to service the engine compartment.

Lots of guys on here could weld up a body from pieces. But you have a great eye for the styling you were after. It looks like you found it half buried at the edge of the Salt Falts, left from a Speedweek in the '40's - and that's the highest complement I can give it!

My 2cents - find some tall skinnies (19" or 20" wheels and build some spun disk covers)

You gonna build a belly pan for this thing?

Very nice work on the frame and body bro. So your going to use the tail lights on this project? Look like they will work nicely with the rest of the body.

That's a really nice frame. What size tubing?
Did you do the bends yourself, if so what did you use to make the bends?
The frame looks to be overbuilt and really safe. I like that.

The main tubes are 2 1/2 by .120, the roll bars 1 5/8 by .098,and the 1 inch tube is .120. I did not bend the tube myself. I had a race car fab shop bend 2 180 degree and eight 90 degree bends on 10 ft sticks. Cost $80.00 for the bends, used them where I needed them. It is over built but the thing fits tight like a glove. I don't think I could have overkill here. It should be strong.
Those 38 olds tail lights will fit like they were made for it.I found a pair of 39 buick headlights that match well also.

Still love that shot you had early on with solid harley davidson wheels up front...I think it needs skinny as fronts still.

    Cheers

  25. So this is what the radiator is going in. COOL!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like ya' needed a compact cooler. What I have should be perfect for what you're doing.

I'll have to keep an eye on this build. This is a real unique nostalgia piece. I remember an article in an old Mechanix Illustrated where they took a pair of fenders to create the tail section for a midget. This build is the way it used to be done. I think old open wheeled race cars are some of the best looking ever.
