Way cool home boy!! Would love to come over and see it up close! It's lookin turdriffic, hope to see ya at a Wensday nite soon-Sololobo/Larry
Waiting on tires from coker and the parts pile is growing.Need the wheels and tires, they are essential to the build. That and I bought the chevy coupe body and I'm trying to ignore it in the corner of the garage.Monday is my day off and I plan to grind welds today.I appreciate the interest and will have another post soon. Thanks
We all get the visions, but only a few get into action. I'll be cheering you on from my creeper! Scotty
the red thing on the floor is a David Bradley hood.If I don't find another then I guess this ones for sale. It's like a curse,If I sell it then another will show up tomorrow.I finally got the last parts car cut up or I should say Rob Lee did while I watched.most of the sheet metal I'll need for the body.Coker delivered new skins,Traded a leftover I beam for a T5.The parts pile is getting to the point I can get serious on the frame lay out.Spent yesterday grinding the welds on the body, fun fun fun,I'll take photos of the cowl and hood areas as they will soon get my attention.Thats it for now, thanks for all the interest, later.
I think I know where there's one of those david bradly hoods.. I'll go back and look where I saw it last.
theres what apears to be an old tractor parts yard north of freemont on 77, could possibley be a hood there. its right on the highway on the east side. i want to say its either in lyons or uehling, i cant recall off the top of my head. its right in town though. im heading past it on sunday morning on my way to get my hand tattood in sioux city if youve got some better pix maybe i can see if i can spot one if they arent open?
I'm 99.5 percent sure there is one out at my inlaws. I'll check this weekend. if I can find it it's yours.
I've started shaping the cockpit,Useing half inch square tube and rear window metal from the parts car. the 46 truck hood and the 50 chevy hood share a common line, how cool
I matched edges from another hood so I'll have as crisp a line as I can.Tack welded the parts from a 46 truck hood in place and made a cardboard template for the hood skin. the nose was about all that was good off this fford hood. The parts keep pilling up so I'll continue to march.I didnt start welding the top to the hood but will little by little this week.
Hey man I sent out some info of your need for the hood to a buddy of mine who is in a tractor club around town and they the club know alot of tractor salvage yard. so I will let you know when i find out more info. Do you have a price in mind or maybe I could get you his contact info. Sticks
You inspired me to hack apart a 1953 4 door caddy this past weekend for donor sheetmetal. The initial mock up didn't look as cool as I thought it would, but I think it will turn out better once I cut the skins loose from the factory inner structure. .....bad enough I didn't even take a picture!
Here is a David Bradley hood I found on everyones favorite auction site. http://cgi.ebay.com/OLD-David-Bradl...ryZ29520QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
almost a shame to cut those david bradley hoods up...but far be it from me to doubt you! Looking cool so far!
Got to think about all the metal that gets cut up.Weigh it against what the end result will be and throw the dice. The David Bradleys are cool as they can be and I guess that is just the point. If they make the results I'm after then any metal is fair game.I've got a Weber bbq that will probably make a great bellhouse tunnel for the floor. If I use the top,I think it's still a hood , with the David Bradleys that will bring the hood count to 8 on this build.Hoodlum for sure.
Dude, That is going to be one awesome looking machine. Keep us posted with your progress. Just am lovin' this ! 41 Dave
Just a picture of some of the parts. I got the roof, hood and all four doors. The idea was that I could split the roof down the middle, lay the halves together and end up with a Hilborn lakes car lookin thing.
I'd hope you have two of each, fenders, doors, so you can mirror image each side. You split the top same as a hood, lay them on their sides, cut sides down.Do you have a hood? Same with it as the top, that would make the sides for the front. Those door skins could do the boat tail.Lots of thought towards a commom line through all parts for the base of the body.I had the thought of building the hoodlum for a good two years.I'd talk about hoods split in half and I'd get vacant stares.Think the problems thru about 4 steps ahead of what your doing.Think about line, shape, proportion, and go for it.Hey if it ain't right cut it off and try it again.Good luck.
