Event Coverage Hoodlums and Hamburgers last Sunday of every month Edison Washington.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hitchhiker, Apr 24, 2022.

  1. Hey everyone! I want to tell you about a little shindig I'm trying to get going. I was gonna do the first one today, but my back is on fire and I had to cancel. Also my promotion of the event could use a little more help...
So I figured I'd take the time to post about it here!

My idea comes from the "cars and coffee" crowd. I am calling this "Hoodlums and Hamburgers" I am holding it the last Sunday of every month April - September in my little town of Edison, Washington. If you are unfamiliar with Edison it is a little town in Skagit Valley with some of the best food in Washington! There are several very cute bars in the "downtown" area and it is reported that we have the "best food in Washington". The town is very cute and has tons of old buildings. My goal is to fill downtown with hot rods and other cool cars and motorcycles...but mainly hot rods and take over all the bars and restaurants!

This is a informal event. No registration. No power parking. No trophies. But you can "win" lunch and a beverage of your choice by traveling the longest distance and being here by 12pm. The establishment we will meet at is known as the "Longhorn Saloon." (I highly recommend the chicken wings.) Though everything I have had there is excellent.

So that's it! Pretty simple really! It's it's kinda a combination reliability run and cars and coffee type thing. You basically have to make it here in your cool vehicle. I'm not gonna put a "type" of vehicle you need to drive here to "win" but it needs to be a car or motorcycle that is considered "cool". By that I mean it needs to have some form of "speciality interest". You could show up in a 2004 Lightning or a 1932 coupe...even a turbo charged purple dodge neon that runs 11's. But your mom's stock Civic isn't gonna cut it! And really we are "encouraging traditional hot rods" as the theme. I just have friends who I would like to show up who aren't into hot rods and don't want to be exclusive. Even though I'm normally an asshole like that.

So there you have it. The first official event will be May 29th. You have to be there by 12 to "win" lunch and have traveled the longest distance in your cool car. We'll see ya there!

  4. I'll have to make the trek up there the next time I'm in Seattle for the weekend once my Pontiac is "done". It looks like a cool town.

    Hey @Hitchhiker.

This sounds like a great idea, so I will be coming up to enjoy the festivity's ! I will start saving up my retirement money so that I can afford to fill up my gas tank !

    ( Just kidding )
I know I should not ask, but is this cool monstrosity, meat wagon, running yet ?

Photographs are from when the meat wagon went to Oshkosh Wisconsin, to the sea plane base and to Ardy and Ed's drive in.

Nah, I guess its still at the bottom of the list as far as priority's go !
Anyway, I am looking forward to attending this cool event !
    See ya there !

    Thanks from Dennis.

  7. Please do! We'd love to have ya!

Thanks HRP! I think with a little time, we'll get some good turn out.

I'll buy ya lunch if ya do! Definitely would be the furthest distance!

please do! The Chuckanut Inn is great! I'm just up the road on one of the mountains.

I tried, seems like the solenoid is bad. Haven't touched it since! To much to do, not enough of me!

  8. A couple cars made the trek anyways. I drove down to meet them, even though I was in a lot of pain. 20220424_112731.jpg 20220424_112745.jpg Thanks for coming @uncle_buck

    Wow!
What is the story behind the ultra mega cool MOPAR sport coupe FWD urban assault vehicle? That is one kick ass ride, please post some more pictures of that rig!
Hope your back gets to feeling better soon!

  10. It's a Desoto. It's pretty rusty....but makes a perfect gambler 500 car. I don't want to post any photos of it as it's definitely off topic and I don't want to get this thread shut down. But I'm sure you'll get a chance to see it in person if you come for lunch.

As Matt said, It’s a’55 Desoto sitting on a shortened mid 80’s F-250 chassis and has a 460 and 5 speed. It was put together for one of the first Gambler 500 events about 5 years ago in about 30 days and has clocked over 70,000 miles throughout the western states since. He bought it as a parts car for the hemi and hadn’t gotten rid of it yet when his wife mentioned the gambler event. It’s kind of an WTF build. Lot’s of pictures on Instagram as @1955_Chupacabra. As Matt said, definitely off topic so I will leave it at that. I am sure that if you attend Matt’s gig you will see it around.

Cool and only 231 miles. All I need is something to drive 16510418696863899910798428961902.jpg

That map shows how Google gets people lost though. One route over White pass to Morton and up past Puyallup and one over Blewitt and Stevens. Along with the route I take to go to Annacortes.
Now to get the OT road burner back together (It's old enough for classic plates but will never get them) and pick a day.

  18. Also I want to add, there is Tacos, pizza, breakfast and seafood as well....if burgers aren't your thing...Edison reportedly has the best food in Washington....just sayin.

  22. Well despite the weather, I still had fun. 5 of us came out. We had lunch. @41 GMC K-18 came with his friend John. They came by the shop after.... We'll be doing it again on June 26th... though the day after the Greenwood car show maybe a little slow again.

Well, were going to come up in Johns cool 36 Ford roadster, but there was a strong chance of rain going up to Edison and then coming back as well, Johns car is really nice, but as you can imagine, its a pain in the ass to have to clean it, after its been out in the wet.

    harwood 4.jpg harwood 3.jpg

So we opted to just be wise and not drive the Ford and just come up in my OT Daily driver. Of course as the weather gods got their act together, there was just a slight sprinkling going out of Seattle, and it just got better and better, the further North we went.

I guess with the advent of the Indy 500 happening, and the threat of rain, it kept a lot of people at home, but in reality, the weather was really sunny and even warm as we were having lunch at the Long-Horn Saloon. And Matt was correct, the food there is really good and the menu is extensive!
Good value for your money indeed.

As far as the pictures, well the Nikon never came out of the car, as there wasn't a gaggle of cars to photograph, so I did snap a few with the Smart phone of our intrepid little gang that did attend.

John brought up a few posters and information cards for the up coming Greenwood car show, that were posted at the Long-Horn Saloon, so I felt I would post a shot of the information here as well.

So its simple, patience is a virtue, and hope's are high for a better turn out of HAMBERS, for the next one at the end of June.

I will be back up with the Nikon, in hope's of photographing the cool cars that attend !

For anybody that hasn't been to the cool little town of Edison, its well worth the gas money to go visit, the town is cool, and the scenery all around up there is beautiful. I highly recommend it.

So thanks again to Matt @Hitchhiker for his efforts to lure fellow HAMBERS up to a cool little town that is a great place to hang out!

    Thanks from Dennis.

Had planned on going up, but it was pouring at the house so decided to stay put and work in the garage. Will get up there soon .

  30. Beautiful day. Had a pretty good turn out! Got to meet Warbird1 and see his beautiful 390 caddy powered hot rod. There wasn't a lot of hamb friendly stuff besides his ride. We had a couple motorcycles. A mustang. A stock Model A panel truck. An A sedan that is borderline traditional/rat rodish. A Lightning. A couple others.

It was just really nice to meet new friends, and have lunch and a couple beers with like minded folks!
