Hopped/ stock original- style engines only.. '38's, '39's & '40 cars & trucks. With this thread, let's see & hear your stories/ pics on any USA products from these years. Chevy, Ford, Graham, Lincoln, whatever.. if it has/ runs an engine from these years ( or of similar provenance- i.e. Blue Flame for Chev, 8BA for Ford- you get the picture..); Share it here! -
This is the engine in my 39 ford 8ba mercury .060 over Edmonds intake with 97s, and no shift problem has a c4 auto trans. I guess this is what you are looking for.
Yes, thank you GeorgeMaine. . There's plenty of scope here for speedway etc., and street cars fit the bill real nice. Down here we used to call cars like yours 'improved stock'. I saw pics of early fifties Daytona beach NASCAR junior stock- class racing and most of the racers were in '38- '40 Fords. So if we run the the thread out to any related hopped- up '38- '40 cars, original- type engines, any USA make, street/ track (any use), trucks too- that's the theme. I like C4's, reliable and efficient. I drove one 300,000 miles on same clutches. Would seem to make a lot of sense behind the flatty. Cool car!
Thanks Alex Yohnk. Hot looker sans hood & rad rake. Dig the HAMB tag too. When I get my car to this stage I 'll tag it too. Nice firewall style, battery location is lower yes? I'd like to get my battery off the firewall, car I have is similar in layout to a tudor.
My old '39 Standard............Chevy 283 hooked to the stock transmission. It also had an original Bell Auto Parts dropped axle (should have kept that when I sold the car.)
Hey Spoggie, here's my old '39 coupe from Pasadena Ca. It's an improved stocker - warmed over engine etc. Pity it has not turned just one mile since it arrived in this dumb assed state of ours. Great idea for a thread, ill add as I come across worthy stuff....man. -H.R.D-
Like the postwar Bill France days of Nascar Daytona Beach. Dude, Muttley- beauties. Dude's coupe is way cherry. Is my memory decieving me, or was it a mid- sixties librarian's car, hand picked for restoration? Show 'em the dash knobs man. Beautiful any old how. ^
The whole reason I got onto hot rods was the neighbor's '39 Chevy coupe. Bright red with red steelies and trim rings. Sittin' right with bigs n littles and a hot tri-power 327 and a four speed. That car owes me a bunch of money!! I'll have to dig out and scan an old pic.
Wow! That's beautiful. My dad had a white 39 standard when I was younger so I have a soft spot for these cars
So fine Muttley. Wheelarch reveals & headlights are interesting cues on the '39 Plymouths. '40 Dodge hearse (Australian). Yeh, I've messed with these 2. The wheels and some details were too street-roddy.
