Evening gents I'm looking for a screamer of a 4 banger and box for a model A to run at the Pendine sands time trials in sunny Wales in Great Britain has anyone got anything or know a man that has Thanks Neil http://www.vhra.co.uk/VHRA/Pendine_Sands.html
First I assume you are talking Model A or B engines. A good question, that I don't know the answer to, might be what is the best head of all time and what is the best head currently produced? Who makes the best cam? Stipe maybe? A or B engine best? What crank? Are there any rules we need to know for the time trials? I assume an original A or B block is required but anything else? Is a G28T engine acceptable? Is a Donavan engine acceptable? Have you been watching which heads win hill climbs in the US? I will be following this one. Charlie Stephens
Hi, must be a 4 cyl and period correct pre 49. The space is limited for an engine as it had a nose cone. An A would be fine but something with more power would be awesome!
You talkin' an "A" block, bored out, with a "B" crank, insert bearings , pressurized oiling, oversize valves, high compression head, magneto, dual downdraft carbs., and a header? Give us your recipe for success- it can be done ( but it ain't cheap).
Do they have a flathead and an overhead class? If so, which are you interests in? Any cubic inch limit? Does it have to be an automotive engine? Charlie Stephens
It's for pendine racer who has joined the thread now he's back online.I'm a V8 flathead man and can't work out why anyone wants to run half an engine Pendine racer post up some photos of your boattail A and particularly the engine in it as it's interesting.Or is it for the aluminium Riley you run?stick up a piccy of that as well. Your thread now sir
Easy now!! It took those V-8's until after the war to catch our little Bangers at the lakes and salt!!!
Hi all, thanks for they replies, it for this roadster, i want to run in the 4 cylinder category, plus a v8 would not fit under the hood,(bonnet). If anyone has a good 'breathed on engine!?
That's quite the car, my friend! I think some details are in order? And I love the "furniture" in your house.
Thank you for the compliments, The car is a Riley / Model A based roadster, hand built all Aluminium two seater. Built in a Boneville flats style with a smooth pan and nose cone. The current engine is a 1500 RM stock. I can reach around 70 mph. I am not Jay leno so a reasonable amount only (to answer the 'how much'). I have been offered a Diamond block and box (good condition) for £2000....I just really need to know what would be the best engine to put in her. The furniture in the Atrium is a 1960 Aluminium Tiger cub!
