I'm running a 1957 235 with a 261 solid lifter truck cam, triple singles, and 1954 Corvette dual exhaust manifold on my 53 Chebbie truck and my 1966 Chebbie wagon has a 292 with a 292 carb and headers.

Where are the 302 Jimmy crate motors available from????

    damn, just a little....;)
    thats bad*** man.
i like seeing "fast 6's", just cause i get so much sh*t from the buddy that are wanting SBC or BBC in their cars and don't think a 6 will do anything...they soon will see with the 292 i picked up. :D

I need some practical info on these engines guys.
A good friend of mine have a 1953 Club Coupe with a 216 babbit pounder and a 3speed.
Will the 235 from 53-54, and later, fit the gearbox?

What about the GMC's, will they fit the box?

He wants to just snug in a motor with some more power without to many modifications.

Questions may be dumb but we are both in the starting of learning details on these engines.

Very nice - what finish (if any) do you have on the block and iron engine parts? Gives it a lot of character. Also I'm intrigued about your motor mounts - they look light, but you know what you are doing - whats the background on the mounts?

i believe the '53-'54 will bolt up just fine.
make sure he get a '53 motor that was powerglide equipped or a '54 motor. in '53 they still used the splash oiling system on standard ****** vehicles...but on powerglide equipped it was full pressure. in '54 they went full pressure oiling on them all.
thats why i yanked my '53 235 and am putting in a 292 torque monster!

I've got the same problem, or worse -- std shifted '53 with a stuck 235. I'm trying to make it run but can't see myself spending money on a splash oiler. For now I was thinking swap to f/p 235 or 261. Eventually I hope to run a hopped up 250 or 292 with a t5.

I've got a 230 in my '64 bel air -- minor chrome dress.

+i'm running a built 292 in my 37 chevy coupe. ported head, cam, clifford alum manifold, 650 holly, and cast iron headers, finned valve cover and side covers backed up with a 200 4r. go to inliners.org to see some hot inlines. if you are into inlines you should join, great newsletter and a website full of info. mike romankewicz inliner #2376

  13. I've got an .080" over 261 in my '54 Club Coupe. Howard's "3/4- Race" cam, tubular pushrods, Offy 2X1 intake with Clifford's split headers, Pertronix conversion, ported head, balanced bottom end, etc... Right now I'm runnig a Saginaw 4 speed and a 3.08:1 10 bolt posi. I'm seriously considering putting an S-10 t-5 behind it, and swapping the dual 1's for dual 2's before spring.
As far as inline info, check out Inliners International's website. There's all kinds of good info on there.
Just remember, anyone can build a small block, but it's more fun to spank 'em with a 6!

Here is my sad looking 235 out of a 55 first series truck. It came from a daily driver and is going in my 39 Chevy truck. I just picked up an awesome Thicksun intake with two gl*** bowl holleys for it; now I just need some Fenton manifolds, a Wayne valve cover/side covers and maybe a mild cam.

yea, i just yanked my 235 (std trans)...its in good shape but still could use a rebuild...its not locked up or anything just needs to be gone through.
i just picked up a freshly rebuilt 292 that i'm gonna drop in the '53 after i "up" it a bit, cam, maybe head, bolt on stuff, ect.
don't know about in your area...but 250s are pretty easy to come by here(Houston, TX)
just try and find some older camaros....they had 250s befor they went V8 or older chevy or gmc trucks for the "big 6s".
GMC had some cool inlines as well...if you can find a 261 or a 302....that would be sweet. you can get rebuild kits for most of them for a decent price.
or if you have the money, just buy a remaned engine...you can find em....

Yeah 250s (and the later L6s in general) are pretty easy to find here (Manitoba, Canada). Thing is, I'm just not ready for the conversion to open driveline. I'm looking for a reasonable running 235 or 261.

yea, i hear ya on the driveline...i'm about to start the search for a rear end...it shouldn't be too hard to find, just need a late 70s to early 80s caramo/pontiac or even S10 rear end will work.
may have to get someone to build/modify a driveshaft...but not too much to ask.
i'm just ready got mine to be driving....still got a was to go though...

Yeah, finding an axle that'll fit width-wise is pretty easy -- it's the locating it under the car part that's tricky.

Anyone have parts left over. I'm looking for headers, 4bbl intake, valve cover and side cover for my 1960 235 inliner. Gary

A 216/235/261 bell housing will bolt to any '39-'59 GMC six. The flywheel, however, is GMC only. Distributors also interchange between the two.

offy 3x1, made my own progressive linkage, but using the standard 54 chevy rochester BC's, just converted the end ones to dumpers.....motor is just a stock 54 chevy 235, although it does have the fenton and supposedly a vette cam...but that might get changed this summer to something a bit wild.
won't win any races, but i can pop my hood and have more comments made than any sbc at a show...
