As and old school hot-rodder, I am amazed, although I haven't done this for a number of years.
first things first, you don't need to spend a lot of money to have fund

You need the bearings in the block babbit, your crank turned.
then you need to port the intake ports and put in bigger valves.
You can use the old cam , or a new cam, your choice according to dollars.
Use the same ignition, mill the head a 1/8 or a 1/10th, and ***emble it.

And you can even fit the babbited rods.

John Vesco on his 4 port used to run the dip oiling system on the engine without any trouble, and in 1948 he was using the same cam he was using in 1934, at least that is what he said to me

Try doing it yourself, otherwise you will never learn how to do it.

You pay 25-50 an hour to have someone do a little stuff to the engine it is wasted money unless it has to be done!
Are you into the hobby for fun or just want to drive and show off your ride.

Remember this. The mechanics who put the Model A engine together were not automotive technicans, they were ***embly line workers , and anything they did, you can do.

I would not make the same statement about a Bugatti!

When you take something simple apart , you can see how it was put together, a little thought and patience and you can put it together better! As you have all of the time needed that you are not paying for.

    well said traderjack!

not that others are not telling the truth as to what it cost if you have to have others do most of it.

you can have a ton o fun without spending a ton o money!...but your not going to get 160 ponies either....that is impressive pete1.

build it best you can...learn....change it along the way....and you won't have to outlay big bucks all at once...

SOSS will definatly be the way to go if you want to build a nice banger. Charley and the guys know there stuff. I built my B as per SOSS, and she's is a runner. When in Florida, she would run down I 75 along with the traffic and I would catch them looking and wondering, cause she looked as stock as Henry made her. I was warned about running Hi gears in the rear. Make sure the engine had enough HP to pull her along. Was never a problem, I'm talking crusing at 65-70, course the T-5 was a great help to keep the RPM in check, but she would handle it.
