Has anyone tried this saw (It's from Grizzly)? Or do you know if DeWalt makes a similar base for their portable band saw?
Western tool has one like Da Bomb has. http://www.westerntool.com/jet-7-inch-x-12-ft-horizontal-vertical-bandsaw.html Store locatons http://www.westerntool.com/locations Looks like a lot of bang for the buck. Right now I'd just like to be able to swing one of their small ones for home use.
I have one of those, works pretty good. What you want to do is order a good blade and build yourself a good stand. The original one ****s, very weak.
Does the automatic shutoff work ok? I heard that it causes problems sometimes. I know it's mainly a horizontal saw but how does the vertical worktable position work? Acceptable?
Thanks, y'all for your input. I ordered the JET 7x12 ... Shopped around and got it for 1,032.00 delivered to my door. Seemed like a fair price on a good machine. Hope it serves me as well as it did for some of you!
The automatic shut off works just fine. My only problem is the weak stand it was on. I haven't used it in the vertical mode as of yet. Haven't needed to.
Here is the link from the HAMB Cl***ifieds for TheFabShop whose stand I bought. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323369 It's a nice, inexpensive stand that works for me. Like I said in my previous post, I wish it had a slot for a miter gauge. From this thread, I now have a way to add the slot for the miter. Now the only thing I need to add is a foot switch. I bought the DeWalt saw because it has a work light and is variable speed.
If your looking for a Horizontal band saw, do your homework and look for a Kalamazoo used in surplus auctions. They are on line all the time even on evil-bay and the price will be the same or better than Harbor Freight or Jet or any Import ****. The older Made in America are hands down better. Pat
I second this. I have had ours for about 10 Years In our shop and we take it out on some location jobs, Be-leave me employees can ruff them up. and this one has lasted quite well for the $
I have a used Harbor Freight one that after I set it up does everything I want it to do. Cost $75.00 including improvements.
probably not what your looking for but i bought a cheap buffalo horizontal saw like 8 yrs ago.. for like $200... it stands up and locks into the vertical position with a small table attachment.. i have used it quite a bit standing up... i use only the bi-metal blades and it works pretty good actually.. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003FGWZJU...e=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B003FGWZJU enco and jet make relatively cheap bandsaws. http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=327-5920&PMPXNO=22539251&PARTPG=INLMK32 i know theyre foriegn but they work.
I used to think that horizontal bandsaws were all pretty much the same, excepting for size. Then I met this one: Absolutely love this saw! With the blade coming down in the middle of the backrest (as opposed to the end) it means you don't even need to clamp your work, unless it's round stock. Converts to a vertical ( shallow, though) in about ten seconds. I bought it from a friend, and it was the funniest negotiation you ever heard: We argued over the price off and on for a couple of months before I finally got him up to 300. He wanted to give it to me for a lot less. He's stubborn, but I prevailed on this one.
