Been out of the loop. Had a hell of a scare last weekend and thought I may loose my wife. She complained all weekend of the flu with stomach cramps and a fever. Sunday morning when the excrutiating pain in her abdomin woke her, we realized something was wrong. By the time we reach the emergency room her Blood pressure was dangerously low and they found she had a rupture appendix. This rupture occured three days prior and the scarey thing was that gangrene and infection went into her system. She went right into emergency surgery and by luck one of the best surgeons was called in. I have spent every waking minute by her side this week and it appears at this point she is going to make it out of this. I have never been so scared... Her too, as she actually told me and the kids her goodbyes on the way into surgery. I do ask for your prayers as she is still having stomach problems due to the surgery and needs to get her stomach going again. The doctor told us tonight she will be put on a medicine to help activate it and then she may be release in a few days. I tell you this kind of thing scares the hell out of you. This pain wasn't localized at all when it burst and only when infection set in did the pain get unbearable. That for some people may be too late. With the flu going around we just thought it was a stomach virus. How many of us put off going to the doctor when we think we have the flu. I tell you this to let you know anyone can have this happen to them so be aware that you may be playing with something you can't handle. One hell of a week..makes you realize our lives just hang by threads here in this world.
WOW, I'm so happy to hear that she is going to be alright. My thoughts and prayers are with her for a speedy and painfree recovery.
Without airing my own "dirty laundry", I truly feel your pain. I know EXACTLY what your going through. Tell her you love her AGAIN... and godspeed to you and your family.
Whoa! I'm glad she is recovering. That is quite a scare. May God bless her and a speedy recovery. Joel
I know exactly what you're talking about. When I was 16 I was having stomach cramps and I didn't tell my folks right away. Then when I couldn't keep anything down, we though it was stomach flu. My stomach bloated and I had to walk all hunched over. My folks took me to the emergency room. The doctor told them if they had waited another 24 hours they could have just taken me to the morgue. My appendix had burst so I had surgery and was in the hospital for 2 weeks total. I was out of school for a month. This is not something to fool with and it can happen at any age. I wish you and family all the best and wish her a quick recovery.
.....yea, I'm hard headed and think that people that rush to the doctor with every little ache and pain are pussies. Guess there is a good lesson learned here? If my wife feels bad, get her to the doctor! ME.....I'm old and ready any time....... ........Our prayers are with you. Get well soon sweetie!
I too know first hand what she went thru. Woke up the night of 2/3/04 to pee, and when I walked to the toilet, I looked down and threw up, for no reason. Went back to bed, woke up for work, got dressed, was walking out the door, and went to "pee" again, and threw up again! Long story short, it turned out to be an inflamed appendix, and as they were doing exploratory surgery, it broke. I spent the entire month of February pretty much on the couch. Sorry to compare, but I do feel her pain, and wish her a very SPEEDY recovery!!! EDIT- Smokin Joe reminded me... the "surgeon" at the ER I was at wanted to send me home, it was just a stomach flu he said, but another surgeon wanted to do the surgery... the one who wanted to do it talked to me first, and when the other one found out that he wanted to cut me, they got in a very "verbal" fight right in front of me. Thank God that the one looked at me, otherwise it could have been much, much worse! Good Luck! Jay
Glad you were there. Damned doctors here probably would have ordered some blood tests and sent her home to come back in a couple weeks for the test results. Friggin Quacks! Speedy recovery...
Thank you guys. I think I had thousands praying for her because she did much better today. Her stomach held down fluids and she gained 40% of her strength back. Doctor said if she eats solids tomorrow she may get to go home by Easter. A Great day for new life. She will be off work and I will be changing dressing in her open wound for six weeks. The nurses taught me to change the dressing. Her opening and cavity is about half the size of a fist and has to be packed every eight hours with gauze. Thank you everyone and most of all thanks to the Big Guy.
I saw this late, but glad to hear she is doing better and on the road to recovery. It does make you think about what is important in life, kind of a rude awakening.
