This week reno car buffs learned that Hot August Nights mabe leaving reno for southern cal. For the locals this is a slap in the face.I have attended this event from my teens into my later years.I really feel for the volenters of reno that help make this car event one of the best in the west. The high doller management is the down fall of this event .At 175 a pop and well over 4000 cars they are crying poor.Reno news MYNEWS4.COM report that cost have fallen the last couple years for this event. So if you attend this years STAB YOU IN THE BACK RENO you will know why the locals are pissed.

Quit going in 2007, after many years faithful attendance due to the alarming increase in ********ers and the intransigent at***ude of the organizers of the show - a situation that was not helped by the greedy organizers allowing donks to enter and, having paid $170 a pop 15 months in advance for two cars, my buddy and I were refused entry to two locations on a couple of occasions due to lack of space, despite having the proper credentials for the cars and ourselves. Had to park in the regular overflow parking. HAN would never refund any money either in whole or partially even when my buddies kids got sick and were unable to make it to the show. That cost another $240 for two kids p***es. We got the hell out of town on the Saturday morning in 2007, finally having had it with HAN and its ever ****pier swap meet. Plus they cancelled the downtown cruise without warning on the Friday night. I wrote several times to HAN warning them that the show was going downhill and if they did not start refusing entry to certain types of car ***ociated with certain undesirables they would have problems - they obviously did not listen and here's the result.....

Hot August Nights is not old-car oriented.... It's money oriented. Locals, defined as anyone who is going to spend the nights in their own bed and eat the majority of their meals at home, really aren't welcome.

The last year we attended we paid out entry and also provided another 35,000.00 in cash to Silver Auctions as there were a couple of cars that we had an interest in.

For those who have never attended HAN, for your entry fee you receive an ID badge to hang around your neck. On this badge are punch-out areas for free entries into events like the swap meet, auction, etc. These free entries aren't really free, though, because the cost to enter a car is HIGH. What they are is paid up entries into the events denoted on the badge. They are included in the cost of the entry.... The entrant has paid for them, is en***led to them, and owns them....

So...We're walking around inside the auction area with our bid p***es and HAN badges around our necks and some ****wad walks up to us and grabs the HAN badge and starts punching out all the "freebies" that we paid for.....All of 'em, not just the auction entries. He's telling us, in his best authoritarian at***ude that HAN wont tolerate people "stealing" entries into events by p***ing their entry badges through the fence, door, baricades, etc, so that other people can get into the event without paying...

Now, my wife and I are not tatooed-up, greasy hair, ********er, **** *** looking hoodlums.... There was nothing about our appearance that might have given anyone with the intelligence to keep from ******* in his pants a hint that our intention was to "steal" anything from HAN. This ***hole was also too stupid to realize the danger he was in by putting forth his insinuations to me and my wife..

If that wasn't insulting enough...... When we left there was a BIG sign taped to the middle of the windshield of our '55 Chevy, hand scrawled in an angry cursive...."Hot August Nights will not tolerate cars for sale in the parking lot..... We can have your car impounded and ban you permanently from future HAN events. we recorded your entry number for future reference."

Hot August Nights can **** farts out of my dogs ***.....

Rich, you gotta learn to open up and tell people how you really feel about things.
Being wishy-washy will get you nowhere these days....:D

I'm just trying to remain as diplomatic as I can, Rick.

And actually my dogs *** seems to be really clean based on the amount of time he spends licking it:eek:.

8. I went once, about 4 yrs ago. I was NOT impressed. Lots of junk, and bad at***ude from the Police. I was on the sidewalk, in front of the Peppermill watching the cruisers. A Cop told me not to loiter. I explained, I drove 500 miles to attend, I was a guest at the Peppermill, and showed him my room key. He told me to move or get arrested.

It's an over-rated, gang-bangin' waste of money. I go every year because I live 30 minutes away, but I would NEVER pay to enter.

if their biggest concern is lack of money and gang bangers. why did they pick Socal? Long Beach doesn't have money but SoCal has a lot of gangs though.

I have been going to this since I was old enough to walk on my own. I am thouroughly disappointed that this is moving away from Reno. I used to live in Gardnerville and this was always my birthday present to come in August to see whats going on. I may have changed my mind now. That's pretty rotten

The year following our last experience we received the pre-registration in the mail. I knew I was never going again so I offered it to a friend who has been trying for years to register but couldn't because of the hoops one has to jump through to get a car into the event....

He sent my pre-reg in with a check and corrected info, identifying him rather than me and explaining the reasons for the change.

About a month later he received a reply telling him that Hot August Nights doesn't tolerate cheaters and his registration request has been denied. He called them on the phone to explain, pointing out that no one was trying to cheat HAN...that's why the corrected info and explanation went in with the entry...... After dealing with a rude person on the phone for several minutes he asked for his check to be returned.. They said not possible. His money would be held in an escrow account till after the event and he might expect a refund 30 to 60 days after that.

Since we both had '55 Chevys he could have easily registered under my name. It would've been simple for me to go with him to pick up the registration, pay for it with my check and let him reimburse me. They would never have known. But that would've been cheating....

They're idiots.

HAN: Hairy As- Numbskulls !! intersesting that they are holding a show in Tahoe before Hot August Nites in Reno. think car people have enough spare $$ to got to both?
Tahoe is much nicer place than Reno, but limited roads and places to go to. skip Tahoe and go to Sacramento for Mid Night M***, etc. then skip Reno too.

I think that there are Two Different Groups that are at Hot August Nights.
I went Years ago and had a Fantastic time. Price was right too.
I heard that the first group that had Hot August Nights lost it some years back. I was told that some of the people put swap up for Bid and also charged more for Car Entry. More into money I guess.
The Original Guy who ran it is starting another one in California. If this is true I am willing to go with the Original guy who is starting another one in California.
Anyone have any information about these two different Hot August Nights. Could be that the old one could be getting a bad reputation from the old one?

The one at Lake Tahoe and at Long Beach, along with Reno are all the same group. They are saying that HAN isn't leaving Reno. It's just trying to spread out to get more income, as it's fallen way off the last couple of years.

There will be a Reno/HAN meeting AFTER this event, to see about further contract/events here.

OK, I need some clarification. I was understanding that HAN was expanding to Southern California and not moving to Southern California - just like HAN includes Tahoe for the first time this year. Do I have that wrong?

Thanks,

They were'nt kicked out, they chose to leave. Didn't want to pay the taxes/fee's here. Not taking sides, just being factual here.
Some of the stuff is still going on here now.

Mr. Jean,

Yeah, I see that. :) Thanks, that makes sense.

I guess I must be a lucky sum *****, cause when I go to HAN I only get a week long "hot rod high" and none of the drama I keep hearing about.....maybe cause I go to bed early? :D

I am very much looking forward to this years HAN show.

That is two sides. But I heard a third side. I was told that after they built up the swap meet after all those years. The powers that be told them they had to bid now against someone else to keep it.
This would bring up the charges to us.
That would not be Taxes and Fees, But would be an increase in fees that would be p***ed on to others.

It really does not matter now. But do you know the name and phone number of the member who runs it in California now?

I be the guy that OWNS the original (Harrah's) Reno Swap Meet that started way back in '65 ..
(and the guy who was also instrumental in raising the HAN vehicle cut off to 1972 and getting the HAN car count north of 4,000+ .. looking back .. my bad )

I could share some HAN hair raising tales .. but this is not the place to do it..
call me at 916-955-8777 and I can fill you in ..
just don't be a pro bono HAN attorney .. I have had enough of that BS

Just know this .. we NOW have a very nice, one day swap meet at Arco Arena, in Sacramento CA ( I know it's confusing to still call it the Reno Swap meet but it's out of respect to my former dear friend & partner Bill Finefrock R.I.P.)
coming Sunday Aug 1st. 2010 -- it's our 3 year there ..
filled mostly with real cars and parts ..
(I know someone will sneak in some yard sale ****)
11,000 spaces
no pre -***igned spaces
no pre-registration required

complete info here www.renoswapmeet.com

Sorry there so much mis info out there and you would think that someone who is paid $268,000 a year to run HAN could figure out how to handle the HAN Public Relations just a little better..

Back then it was a small town's kool Celebration of the 50's and 60's cars and rock and roll music. As the years have past, it has turn from a small town's celebration to greed from a outside source.
Once han's was Reno's car show, now han's is just a car show that just happens to be held in Reno. Once it was a car show that everyone in Reno took part in and was proud to say Han's was held in Reno. Now I am embar***ed to mention han's.
Once it was a honor to be a volenteer worker for han's, now it is a joke!
All the entry fee to han's is, is a parking spot in a casino parking lot.
I hope those of us who do attend this year's event, have a great time but do not support han's in the form of spending money on things that they profit from. Do not buy t-shirts, posters, or any thing that has the han's logo on it. We have already paid sixteen months ago $170 for our invition to this party. Enjoy the party, Enjoy Reno, but BOYCOTT anything that put's more money into the hands of the greed merchants.
