Just got my Rod & Custom mag and they have a advertisment on Hot Rod Batteries and give you a web site, but I could not find anything about them. My Optima puked (go figure) and I am looking for a good dry cell. I got a funny feeling about this one being an Optima and wondered if anyone has had any experience with it. Thanks
I've had two Optimas fail, and now use Odyssey PC925 AGM batteries. There are many posts on Optima battery problems. Do the old search.
yeah if I remember right its a rebadged Interstate, and if it is more money you may be paying for the cool (or uncool)stickers, i saw them about 5 years ago and didn't know they still made them.
Braille Batteries are the best gel cell technology out there. They have a large variety of physical sizes. www.braillebattery.com
I just got the rod and custom, and saw the ad. This isnt what I thought you were talking about. Some time ago Hot Rod Magazine and Interstate battery made a line of batterys that was an Interstate battery that was rebadged with a Hot Rod Logo. Never heard of these but dimensions and weight are similar to mazda miata battery which is what I have been using for tight engine compartments.
I haven't heard a thing about them but I have had good luck with interstate batteries over the years. The wife and I were talking about that just the other day.
I've got an Optima battery that is getting weak.. bought it in 2001. these dry cells sure are heavy batterys
Friend of mine is building an airplane and showed me the website on Odessey batteries and they are expensive but are a dry cell so they don't vent and can be mounted in any position, upside down if you want and are about half the size of a normal car battery. 15 pounds for one that has 625 cranking amps.
I set this up because everyone has this size in stock if I need one later. It's only 6" wide for a honda. 500 cold cranking amps.
Here found their website Hot Rod Batteries Hot Rod Batteries! NEW technology for Street Rodders and Hot Rodders looking to store their Street Rod Cars for long winter months without the need to charge their batteries. Hot rod batteries do not require a trickle charge and can be stored for the long winter months without a charge. During the times of storage, all you would need to do is just disconnect the negative battery cable and when its time to bring it out of storage just reconnect the cable and start it up and go for a ride. Hot rod batteries are extremely small versatile batteries. They measure only 7 Long, 2 7/8 Wide, and 6 ½ High. These batteries can be mounted virtually in any small space available such as in a glove box, passenger compartment, under the seat, kick panel or behind a seat compartment. Also, because these batteries do not have any acid or gel cells, they can be mounted in any position, meaning they will not leak and it will also make for a trouble-free installation. The Start up AMPS will be 1012. Hot Rod Batteries features a Sealed Dry Cell Battery and weighs 13 Lbs. I just swapped in one of the huge batteries from one of the dumptrucks we have sitting around and it cranks like crazy, holds a charge forever, and is sweet for weight transfer behind my passenger back wheel, oh yeah and they only cost $72 a piece new.
The Hot Rod Batteries' website is the poorest excuse of a website I've ever seen. It tells you next to nothing. If somebody else wants to try one, I'd be really interested to find out what they think of them, but there's no way I'd spend my time & money on a product that I have ambiguous information about. And are "Start up amps" the same as CCA's ???
Don't have any info on the 'Hot Rod battery" but I bought an Odessey 3 or 4 years ago.I like it.It can sit for a long time and charge right back up quickly.Small and lightweight, can be mounted any where.
optima bateeries are crap, nothing more to say, even though they promote themselves as the long lasting, super battery. interstae or a commercial battery.
Why. I am thinking of putting a gel battery under the dash in my Model A coupe. It will be fully enclosed in a 15 gauge stainless steel box.
In the case of lead acid batteries, outgassing comes to mind. And acid in general. Batteries sometimes do strange things like swell and burst. Just not really safe in my mind.
True story,my wife's cousin's husband was in a car wreck years ago.Car flipped over,he was trapped, battery leaked acid in his face and eyes, blinded him.Hi tech batteries may not leak ? But any battery can explode.
the little Odessey batteries are awesome. 3x6x6 if I remember correctly. I've used mine for 3 years now and have only had to charge it twice (long winter sitting). If you car is hard starting you could drain it a little quicker then a "regular" Got it from batterymart.com
I don't have any experience to share re: Odyssey's, but did want to relate a quick Optima story. Thought I had to have one because of size issues... wound up in the Interstate Battery store where they also sell Optima's. The conventional Interstate battery turned out to be SMALLER and CHEAPER (by far) than the Optima, with more cranking power and a better warranty. If there's a consistent story of problems with the Optima, why bother??
