I have been sitting here pondering the things I would like to do before I die or more so before my pops p***es. My dad was there in the mix of things, back in drag racings hey day. He was in the Eliminators Car Club of OKC. He held a National record in C/Gas for a couple of weeks, back when records were being shattered every weekend. My biggest goal is to get the Fly up and running right. There are a few of you that have been on here for a while, know the history of the Fly. I built it for the first HAMB Drags. We built it in 6 weeks, specifically for Ryan's event. I had a young family and virtually no money. We built the car on a very, very small budget. We did all of the work...everything except for the lettering and the vinyl top insert. We ran dad's old 265 in the car, due mainly to no money and I thought it would be cool. The car has never fulfilled it's potential. It was always plagued with Mokan fever. It would be running like a top at the local track the weekend before, but the minute we hit Mokan, it would develop gremlins. Every single time. It does wheel stands and other crazy stuff, but I would like to lay down some serious p***es to make dad proud. Dad will be 83 next month. I am at a place in my life now, where I can afford to spend more money now that the kid's college is done and they are out making their own way. That's my bucket list, must do. I'm gonna make it happen. What's yours?
Keepin' the wheels on the ground might make it quicker..................................................
I have always loved the fly. The car has a exciting raw presence . The best to you Root and your dad.
I thought this past season might be one of the best ever for racing the coupe and enjoying . Then as we all know ,everything took a change. I have hope that the 2021 season will be good. The coupe will be ready. As you stated Root, I am going to make it happen ! The car may be the best it has ever been.
Thanks guys. I am shooting for the next HAMB drags. I am also trying to build the tow car at the same time though.
My bucket list just building my 1948 “Effie” then searching for a 1936/37 coupe to build a dirt race car replica of my Dad’s 1937 Chevy coupe. Life will be good then.
Ahh, my bucket list. There are many things that i’d like to do, including, but not limited to , attending NSRA York, the H.A.M.B. drags, going to the US. Nationals, hugging Ms. Linda ( yeah, I said it) , hanging out at Bonneville , etc..... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Very cool car. My bucket list seems like it grows every day, but I think the top of the list is to get my 3 Window done and drive it to Bonneville.
