I have to ask....How do you come up with such a venue? Its not like throwing a dart at a map.....Is it? Very cool Ryan, sounds interesting!
cool!! i grew up just up the river in portsmouth! mabye i'll make the trip up and visit the family too!! awesome.
That's 729 miles from northern Wiscowsin. Nice little jaunt, I think that we will do it. I just made room reservations at the Holiday Inn which it seems is right down the road from the Theater. It is about 2 miles from the Drive in. Actually, here's what I do: 1. Take user demographics and figure an area of the country that needs a good event. 2. Once I have a general area down, I come up with a "theme" that I think would be interesting... In this case, drive-in theater... 3. I research the best venues in the area. In Ohio, there are three to four REALLY old drive-ins that are still lit. I knew I wanted to use one of these joints, so I called all of them and ran it by them. From those conversations, I get an idea who is most prepared for folks like us. 4. Make the decision and announce it.
What can I say? Two birds with one stone. First I'll get to hang out with my HAMB brothers and sisters. Second, I'll get to mark another ozoner off the gotta visit before I die list. Yeah, I have a list of drive-ins I want to visit. Every year I get a couple more marked off. The Kanauga has been near the top for awhile but something always seems to take precedent on the weekend I plan a trip up there. I'll make sure nothing stops me this time. Here's the drive-ins.com page for the Kanauga http://www.drive-ins.com/theater/ohtkana Ryan, if you like doing Drive-In shows, one of the guys in my club owns the Judy Drive-In in Mt.Sterling,KY. http://www.drive-ins.com/theater/kytjudy Came back to edit and add some links
Man, a drive-in movie event sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. Not sure I can make it, but darn, that's a great idea!
Have you already landed the films? This will be the hardest part unless you have someone you know that has some. I have to hurry and get the 50 on the road.
Cool idea..... I planned to come down for the Hot Rod Reunion, now I will have to be in Ohio twice in the same year....great
Twice in the same MONTH! Tara needs to talk to Ryan regarding setting up her booth there. Her stuff is killer and I know she'd do well.
Holy smokes, that's only an hour from my house!!! This rocks! Ryan, if you need help with ANYTHING, be sure to drop me a PM!!! ...now I've to go back and read all the posts.... YES!
This sounds like a perfect way to welcome myself back home from this stupid war!! Hopefully the Chebby will be running by then.
To most of you, this little town that Ryan has chosen has several things going for it that will be great for a venue like this. The town has a park area that looks just like a time warp to the early 1900's. It has beautiful OLD, LARGE trees.....a sort- of town square.....beautiful gr***y areas, picnic, etc (I think parking ****s though)......and guess what? This quaint little parks sits right on the mighty Ohio River and over looks an urban part of WV. There should be plenty of accommodations over in WV.... Bob Evans Farms is about 30 minutes away. BE used to have one heck of an antique car show. It's a pretty cool farm.....beautiful rolling hills....rich history......set in the late 1800's to probably the 50's.... You know, the best part for me, is being able to bring my grandpa to an event such as this. I actually think he'll come to this......simply awesome!
From all the stories you've told us about him over the years I'm really looking forward to meeting your Grandpa and shaking his hand.
i promise not to get too excited and post a hundred times...... check this out http://www.gallianet.net/Gallipolis/mound_hill.htm
i'll do my best........ he'll probably say something like, "Why would I go to a g** d*mned show an hour away when I've got cars and tractors to work on!" Nah, actually, I can get him to go places that are only an hour away.......being out after dark, however, is going to be a tough sell to him..... BTW, HRLC, I owe you a BIG thanks!!!! My gifts were in the mail!
