AMIG & Barlow Insurance My wife and I have had our classic cars insured with Barlow Insurance Corona Ca for over 18 years, multiple high end classic cars. Currently a 1963 Dodge 330 appraised and agreed value $104k, 1938 Plymouth appraised and agreed at $89k (both appraised by Jeff Hyman), 2005 Dodge Viper and a 1977 Formula Firebird. Over the years I have insured (2)51 Mercs, (1) 49 Ford, several 32 Deuce Coups, 55, 56, 57 Chevy’s and other cars without any claims. In 18 years I have had three insurance claims: The first claim being in in 2010 when our 2005 Dodge Viper was rear ended. The driver that rear ended our car his insurance paid for it. The second claim was in November of 2013 when I was having my 36 Ford aligned at an alignment shop and the technician was field testing the car and the passenger door was not locked and opened, the company's insurance doing the work on the car paid the damage claim. The most recent claim was on July 19th of this year when I hit some debris on the 15 freeway on a rain slick highway blowing the front left tire out and causing the car to spin and TC with the cement divider...no property damage, no other vehicles involved, no injury. A little over $5k in damage. Barlow Insurance is the agent representing AMIG. I sent Barlow the photos taken on scene; complete detailed report on the accident and all I get back from him is I have to contact the AMIG agent directly, WHAT!!!! REALLY!!!! What should your agents responsibility be?. For over 10 days I have been calling and sending emails to AMIG's agent Robert Baker who never returns calls or emails while my car sits at the body shop. It's beyond the pale when an insurance company that has had a loyal customer for over 18 years does not even has the professional courtesy to return a call or email. The true test of an insurance company is how they handle a claim; this experience with AMIG & Barlow is at best, the worst. Post Script: The HAMB is the only forum where hot rodders can share our experiences good or bad and from that collective input help us make better decisions about the products and services we use. I know there must be a lot of very positive experiences that others have had with AMIG and Barlow but this is mine and I wanted to share it. Finally after reaching James Keating who is Robert Bakers supervisor the claim was approved. Any suggestions or recommendation on classic car insurance carrier would be appreciated
thanks for sharing and heads up. they were quick to accept your premiums but on a relatively small claim gave you the runaround... worth avoiding these two outfits.
That Sedanette is bad to the bone thanks for the link to the build...do you ever go to the Garden Grove show on Friday night was thinking about taking my 38 down there
Thanks! I never knew there was a show in Garden Grove - where is it at? I'd be up for it when I get the car back together.
Hi Charles, Upon return from my vacation I did review your claim and associated notes. It appears that the claim was received on July 20th and was approved and issued on the 29th. If we take out the weekend, this means processing time was 7 days. This looks like reasonable service from the carrier. I believe the issue here was the inability to talk to myself or your adjuster live. Due to the volume of claims especially in the summer this can be a challenge. I am quite sorry about any distress you may have experienced and that we could not meet expectations in this vital service area.
