HRD, TRK and the Rodders Journal are the only viable mags. Old Skool Rods and Deluxe seem to just keep cloning each issue from the last. Rebel Rods, I bought it, paged it and dumped it. There are the specialty out there and I feel they just do not fall within the paremeters of these mags and really should not even be compared to these regular circulation type mags. They are cool, if you can find them! Honestly, I think I am about to let my Hot Rod sub die, it seems to have turned into a catalog for the new Dodge Challenger, Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustangs. Not really much on the do it yourself stuff anymore unless you are packing bucks! Happy New Years!
this musical chairs bit in the rod mags is gettin cornfusing to me. Guess I,m too old to keep up with whats happinin'. But from my perspective the only mags that really made it in the rod world were ones that had good homegrown do it yerself articles. Just get somebody like Gahnal behind it to know what the the readership wants and you will have a winner.
Bman416 says, "I think HotRod is jumping on the bandwagon a little too late. thats just my opinion though. Take it for what its worth". Hot Rod magazine fired up the band wagon in 1948! HRM, along with the little books is still the source of choice for traditional rod builders. HRD just makes it easier for the new kids on the block to see what it was really like "back in the day". Hopefully, my reputation for being the last poster on many HAMB threads still holds true.
I used to hold that distinction! There should be a separate "Fight to the Death" arena for these topics so they do not get repeated so often. Top 3 "Fight to the Death" Contenders Magazines that Do or Do Not Suck Where is Garage Magazine? Volkswagens... (in any context) Many smileys
I'll admit, sometimes I'm not too sure I know what I'm talking about. I think this thread is merely about ones opinion to a particular mag. I do like HRD. I just prefer OSR and CKD instead. Brian
Can you imagine the response if HRM did something like this? http://www.motorsportmagazine.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/ms-dvd-order-form.pdf Motor Sport Magazine, a European racing magazine. Full searchable archives on CD, every page reproduced, $79.99 per decade. And your wife doesn't bitch about all the boxes.
I used to buy a lot of these magazines, but then I started buying old HOTROD, R&C, ect. on ebay. You can buy a 50's mag in good condition for 3-5 bucks. I think I'm partial to Speed Mechanics. I always liked GARAGE because a lot of the articles told stories that were new to me.
