    Holy thread resurrection!

Ok, so they did this to me too back in '07 probably. They tried to get me to pay, so I told them I considered this junk mail since I never ordered anything. I told them I didn't open it an threw it in the garbage. I never heard from them again, nor did I receive this again.

Years ago my wife received a recipe box and started getting recipes in the mail.

    Next a bill came.

She is a postal worker, and knows the law.
any unsolicited merchandise can be considered a gift.
Of course there were many letters from the company, most of which got tossed.
They finally called, and she mentioned to them if they called again, she would report them for postal fraud.
    never heard from them again.

This is a marketing ploy, a fishing expedition.

I can't believe R&C is up to this. If I get one, I'll never renew my subscription with them again. Regardless, as mentioned above, unsolicited mail / stuff is free. Gary

Is this like the old deal of the 60's and 70's, when mail order "music clubs" would entice you to join by selling you 5 records, cassettes, or 8-track tapes for a penny, only to later ridiculously overcharge you for subsequent orders?... I dunno 'bout that... But what I do know is that the magazine business is in bad shape, very bad shape, (especially "automotive" magazines), and there's lots of 'zines that now offer dvds with their magazine-- They know that the younger generations are far less likely to sit down and actually "read" a magazine, although the youngin's will occasionally consider watching a dvd-- It's a rough world out there for the magazine business-- Sales continue to plummet as younger generations "Just Say No" to reading the "printed word"... It's kind of a shame, but hey, I guess that's what we call "progress"... This is the "modern world"... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

If it's the one with the guy showing you how to weld a Chevy chevelle back together , then the first we are OK then they get real short for the same $20. It's good for the beginner but it cost way to much to get the entire series . You can do the same buying from Eastwood for a lot cheaper investment .

"4wheel and Off Road" magazine did this to me years ago, I watched the video and then chucked it.

I got a call a month later demanding payment. My response,"I didn't ask for the DVD, go f#ck yourself."

That pretty much took care of that. It also caused me to cancel my subscription that I had for over 10 years, I hope it was worth it to them:D

EDIT: I've got to start looking at the dang date on these threads!

  10. You could be billed for it or future issues. Read the fine print. My wifey signed up for some a free health drink that was on a natinal talk show and thought it was a one time deal, they started billing our CC @ $69 /month and it took several months to get them off. I also received a WW2 dvd from the history channel and thought it was free.It was but since I did not read the fine print they started billing me for dvd's to be sent on a monthly basis. It is amazing how the lawyers have fine tuned the fine print for the benefit of the big companies. When in doubt read the fine print first.

I would do the same thing I do with all of my junk mail...RETURN TO SENDER, and mark over my name/address so it wont come back to me by mistake.

This time around for me it is Car Craft that sent it out. I got it in the mail on 10/28/09. Didn't realize that R&C did this two years ago. Could be they just repackaged it and sent it out to another subscriber list. In any case, Still havent watched it yet but plan on keeping it as my free gift hehehehe.
