At every show or cruise in I take the truck to, any kid that wants to sit in it or talk about it are always welcome. They ask if they can stop at my place and check out my stuff. It makes me feel good to see so much interest shown, hopefully they will graduate to auto enthusists.
My Daughter and son were around it constantly growing up . I used to set up a play pen in the shop so I could keep an eye on them. When my Daughter was little she would go with me to the races , ride in the race car through the staging lanes , I would hand her off to my wife , or a friend if my wife was at home with our infant son , then make a p*** and reunite afterwards. We always had hearing protection on the kids . My Son and his 4 1/2 year old twin girls are coming in late March for a visit , hope I can get them to set in the dragster while they're here ! Was able to get both girls to sit in the dragster and my '38 Plymouth pickup , and my '64 Dodge 330 wagon ! My Son is pictured with them. I asked one of the girls what her favorite thing was that they did on their visit, and she said "sitting in the race car " !
Does wearing a H.A.M.B. shirt count? I posted one of my sons helping tear down my’62 Merc engine earlier, but I’m down in Florida visiting the grandkids right now. Went to the beach today, and ate at Fords garage in Daytona yesterday. There IS an old H.A.M.B. friendly Ford behind us.
My favorite kid picture. His dad was a HAMBer when it was taken. The kid wanted to see the stuff on the bottom
Three daughters. Grew up in the 36, can sing nearly every 50s and 60s song out there. Vacations (military leave) were back to home in the 36 several times. They enjoyed the many rod runs we attended, made friends all over the East Coast, they even liked camping at the runs. Now, not a moments interest. Only one grandson, rice burners are his thing, the four granddaughters are all into the "thumbs on ****ons" thing. So when I'm gone the cars will be sold off. No hope of adding any hot rodders from my family!
I have 6 nieces and Grand Nieces age 5 to 45. finally my grand niece had a boy, , but they live 1,000 miles away. all can do is buy him cool T-shirts and get him Hot Rod toys for Christmas. I have a bunch of Hot Wheels I'm going to send him when he gets a bit older.
My Avatar is our son about 4 years old. The photo is of his car now. He’s in the Bonneville 200 MPH club at a speed of 202 and races a car at Perris AutoSpeedway…so I guess he qualifies.
Well, record temperatures here in rural SW Wisconsin today. My son Matt has his learners permit and I wanted to blow the dust off one of my cars. I wanted to teach him how to shift a Muncie, well that’s in an OT car. My H.A.M.B. friendlies are automatics. I let all 6 of my older kids drive this car while they were learning to drive. Now they can all drive stick obviously.
