There are books and magazines in other languages than English, you know.

The comment about better writing in the old days is partly true. Today, an article is a summary of the part sources... cam from xxx, crankshaft from yyy, and intake manifold sourced from zzz. Every sentence contains a name of a supplier. In the older articles, the writer spun a story about what the builder did and how he did it since there were fewer "premade parts" available. Mr. Baskerville's writing told a story instead of listing parts sources. I like the former style better than today's style.

Good to see Hot Rod still kicking at 75. Can anyone shed some light on the 3 window shown on the 75th anniversary sticker? Better yet, maybe post a good picture of it.

This quote is a butchered summary of a 2002 survey. The survey was flawed. Amongst other things, their idea of "literature" was fiction & poetry. Nonfiction was excluded. So that Harlequin romance is "literary" but Sandberg's biography of Lincoln is not? In any case, it only asked about books, and then only fiction, so its really OT here. Back to Hot Rod magazine.

I think the hot rod world lost more than we even realize now with Pat’s passing. It will take a long time for me to wake up without him popping into my head. Worst hobby loss for me since Steve Hendrickson.

Back in the day, every Petersen title actually had a copy editor, usually a retired teacher or librarian. I had to submit copy, double spaced with a carbon copy, at least 10 days in advance of the deadline. Sometimes changes could be handled over the phone, and sometimes I had to retype a page or two. Cut and paste copy on a computer is easy to recognize as opposed to a piece that started out with an outline and then filled in with facts in a cognitive flow. Thinking was that it was easier to teach a hot rodder how to be a writer than the other way around.

I can't think of Wally Parks without remember giving Barbara a ride in the El Caballo during an event at the Peterson Museum commemorating the Carrera Panamericana.
