I recently went back to a subscription to Hot Rod. It looks to me like they have stooped to a new low now. In the latest issue I see a full-page ad for penis enlargement. What the hell is that kind of ad doing in a hot rod magazine? They have whored out for the money. I sent Freiburger a note of protest. If that's the direction they are going, no more subscription for me. The magazine is only marginally of interest these days anyway. R & C is a MUCH better magazine. And yes, I do have a small one but I don't want to read about it in Hot Rod.
What's the email address? I have two nephews that have subs to that mag and they will get cancelled for this. So, what's left in print that's decent and on topic? I don't want a buch of lifestyle crap either, just something with decent tech content as a teaching aid for the kids.
We have traditional Rods & Customs in R&C with ABSOLUTELY NO Penis enlargement ads! Should be a natural if you like the HAMB. Maybe that editor is working some kind of product trade-out deal?

i guess because i don't need it i was'nt offended by the ad, but i can see your point were the kids are concerned. as for the content of the magazine, it has been AWESOME the last few months. better than i ever remember it in my 18 years of reading the mag. most on here that have seen it will agree that it has realy turned itself around. i love R&C aswell but give Frieberger and hot rod the credit they deserve. they are (finaly) putting out a super magazine.
Why not ask the Advertizing Coordinator, Monica Strock, or Publisher's assistant, Peggy Medina? Maybe they think you guys are interested in these products? Or maybe they wish you to were interested? (4 out of 9 of the advertizing staff are women) When I was in the 8th grade, the science teacher, the one who sponsored the custom model car contests and drove a cool lowered '54 Merc to school, kept HOTROD, Motor Trend, Car craft and R&C among the Scientific America magazines in a rack at the front of the class room and we could read them if we were done with our daily assignments. I remember each and every HOTROD had a Winston commercial onthe back cover and he would glue a sheet of blank paper over it so we weren't subject to this awful advertizing. But that was a good thing because we all KNOW for a FACT that cigarettes kill. There's a Viagra and Cialis ad in that HOTROD too! Must be a trade off for not packing the magazine with BILLET WHEEL ADS! Some ad's gotta pay for the publishing to the satisfaction of the owner's pocket requirements or we won't have a magazine. We bitched enough about getting rid of the high tech and billet ads so they are replaced with more "creative" advertizing... I suppose you object to these children watching NASCAR races too because Mark Martin drives the VIAGRA car? They don't get to watch TV either, do they? You know they advertize those communist pornographic drugs on TV too!!! Heaven forbid they stop off at Border's Books on the way home from Private school and open a copy of Iron Horse or Easyrider or one of those British motorcycle magazines with the neked women riding the bikes and the "escourt service and full body massage ads in the back... Your nephews are probably going to ridicule ass off at your silly reason for cancelling the sub. I suppose they don't get to look at the HAMB either because they might see the FUCK SHIT PISS CUNT words here? Just for a kick, ask them which free porn sites are best on the web.... While I agree that it seems out of place, it actually is a targeting of the audience that the enlarger company wants. Hot Rod probably has about 98% men readers, so the enlarger company is just delivering their msg to a specific segment of men as a whole in society. Any magazine has ads, just don't look at the ones you don't like. I would prefer to see other ads myself than penis enlarger, but I will say that overall Freiburger is doing a good job on content and would be nice to hear from him or inside persons at Primedia on this issue of advertisers.
this isn't a proud moment in my life but I did see some humour in it: my oldest boy he's 12 soon to be 13, well a couple weeks ago at lunch time they are permitted to use the computer room well he went in and brought up some bikini sites and changed the wallpaper/background on all the computers to scantily clad women he fessed up only cause he couldn't wipe the smile off his face due to his small but successful prank and the school was pretty excited in a bad way about what he had done but they also wanted to know how he did it since they are supposed to have firewalls up deny access to them sort of pictorials kids these days know more by grade 3 than I did in grade 10 so for his 13th birthday I was gonna get him a jumbo box of Trojans well not really but frig sakes I am thinking about it!

Rick, I wasn't "blaming" them at all, I don't see any wrong doing to place any blame on anyone. I was just making it known that this isn't a case of just and only a bunch of "dirty old men" trying to turn HOTROD into HUSTLER. If big engines "give you guys wood" (all too common statement on the HAMB) Then why not have actual "enhacers of life's happiness" products advertized too?
Well, they are not in the eigth grade, they are 8 and 11 and I want them to have access to info that their parents don't have to sensor. I emailed their parents and if they are content to play sensor, the subs will stay. I just don't see why this stuff had to leave it's own environment. As for the size....you (Not YOU) should probably learn how to use it before you worry about how big it is.

No doubt the ad guys at Primedia were thinking cars,women, lots of male readers-here's a good spot to hide these ads. If you don't want the kids to read the ads, have the magazine sent to you,tear out the ads you don't like and pass it on to them. But don't deprive them of the CARS.
