Maybe it's worth more to someone else, and you can work with him to save it.

I have been able to do that kind of thing once or twice and man is it fun. Overwhelming but a blast. Glad to see you saved some of it. Thanks for the pics.

And I thought my find was cool. But that moving van is sweet. That would make a sweet RV. Cool Save.

I bet if you asked nicely that there would be hambers around the area more than willing to help you clear stuff out of there before it gets scrapped.

That's what I'm doing. Mostly Milkweed and Kipper34, but we have had a few others come down. It's a balancing act though. The guy can get in trouble with his insurance for having people running around in there while he's got heavy equipment running. He also doesn't like having to stop every 10 minutes to dicker on prices with people. Too many folks and he gets jumpy and kicks everyone out. So far he's been really good to me and I need to maintain that or it will be locked down. It's a crazy situation, but it's a blast.

I used to live in Tooele Utah and if I was there now I would be more than willing to come help out. Best things I have found to do in a situation like that is to gather allot of stuff together and say what will you take for this pile you usually make out pretty well. You know like they do on American Pickers you know bundling.

Hopefully you find some hotrod gold or even some hotrod unobtanium but hey even anything that you can sell make money on and build something nice is always good too.

It never fails. People hoard this stuff hoping to make a buck but die long before they ever see a penny.

Hoarding never leads to anything good. Sadly, it's a mental illness that is rarely dealt with before it gets out of hand. All of those parts are useable, but most will be destroyed due to the owners hoarding. Sad...

I would have to say, it's quite ironic that one sitting on a goldmine worth of stuff would lose it all in the blink of an eye.

    Sad. Very very sad.

Was able to dig some more today. Pulled two boxes of early vette trim and chrome pieces, another set of 63-4 bumpers, a '59 vette trunk, a '63-4 vette trunk, and two 63-4 vette convertible deck lids. The scrap guys got the big hoist working so that makes it more feasible to get a bunch of stuff out of here!

That place would have me busy forever just to see what all there.
The pic below is an Austin Healey 100 Grill BN1 style. Just saying if you were wondering. Nice score!

I agree with what "Hot Rod" said; bundle up some large deals. Instead of interupting him every 10 minutes, make a huge pile, then hit him up every several hours. Maybe you should be making offers on an entire floor of stuff. Move a few choice pieces from other floors to the said floor and make a deal. Hire a couple of day laborers to shuttle it down to your truck/trailer to speed things up, while you put together a bundle on another floor.

How much time do you have left !?

Sure seems to be a lot of good parts that could not be recoverd. Saw several 57 Chevy hoods...

The only reason I'm able to get in there still is that I don't bug him. He had a handful of people show up one day and they were driving him nuts. Now it's on lockdown unless its me and my buddies. We do exactly what you mentioned. We make a pile of stuff and then go settle with him when we are done or when he needs to leave.

I'm sure I could BUY all the stuff in there, but having the labor to sort through 5 floors of stuff and sort out the junk from the good, and to be able to get it all out by Saturday AND having a place to store 5 floors full of car parts is a bit of a challenge. Bottom line: he can move through it faster with an excavator and bulldozer than we can by hand. We are doing all we can really, it's just a crappy situation.

You're right, there's a bunch of tri 5 hoods, fenders, decklids, grills, bumpers, etc... I have some of it stacked and ready to come out on Saturday. There's TONS of truck doors, but there's also lots of OT stuff like 1st gen camaro doors and fenders, SS consoles, 12 bolt rear ends, on and on and on.... We think we've identified most of the "good" stuff. Then again, they move a bunch of crap with the excavator and it uncovers a bunch of stuff! I have a bunch of friends coming on Saturday with trucks, trailers and cash and hopefully we can make a dent in it.

Just the COE cab and chassis are worth a bit these days, or at least the sellers think so.

Too bad you don't have a set price for all of it - and 1 year to move it all. That place sounds like madness - well it is..........

Manifolds, no. Carbs, yes. 4 of them are sitting on my shelf in the garage now. I still need to go through one of the 100 gallon drums that is full of carbs to see if there are any more. I'm pretty sure I've hunted down most, if not all, intake manifolds in the joint.

I know I have driven past that place when I am visiting. I just can't place it on a map. That is awesome. I will be up there this weekend, so on Fri if you need a little help I can offer a hand for a while. Keep up the good work pulling out the little treasures.

  23. BigMac, I sure hope you gathered all the midyear Corvette stuff you could. Those trunk lids(56-60, and 61-2) are probably lesser in value than some of the midyear stuff lying in the floor, like that dash panel. Am I seeing Cameo bedsides in there? More gold...And 55-7 pickup fenders that aren't rotten...good $$$. The 59 ElCamino tailgate is always in demand if not rusty... I'm sooo jealous, but happy at the same time. Thanks for saving stuff for us guys that always need it...
If it's going to ebay, how 'bout share your seller name? ;)

Sorry folks! I guess 3600 views in a couple days exceeded my bandwidth. I'll see what I can do to get the pics back online.... That's funny.

Why be choosy? All that picking and piling is wasting time.
Buy a floor and take everything.Cash a issue? Pool resources or you must know a "money guy" who can chip in for a percentage.Space issue? Rent someplace that you can secure.
All the sorting can be done AFTER the parts are moved.A 28 ft straight truck and a bunch of dedicated car nuts can move mountains in a few hours.
Been there, done that in your situation(21 cars,45 engines and 2 semi loads of parts...2 days to move it all) and while it took a couple months to deal with the sorting and identification of the parts in the end all costs were covered and the profit margin was pretty damn good.

If I wasn't being choosy, then day one would have got me a truck full of oil drums that contain starters, nuts and bolts, cranks, 3 or 4 barrels of dog poop, and about 5 barrels full of 2-3" iron balls. Would have had to rent a big truck or trailer to get all that crap, and would have needed the guy to load it for me with his forklift. It would have been a complete waste and I would have paid scrap prices for garbage. Instead I stayed out of his hair and got a bunch of really good parts. Not to be rude here, but I'm a fairly smart guy. If there was a good way to just scoop it all up I would. The problem with a hoarder is lots of the stuff is literally junk. It has to be sorted through, and with it being dark in there its all done by hand with a flashlight.

  30. I feel for you. I have been in places like that and I know the chore it will be. My inlaws are antique dealers, instead of an auction the girls joke of a can of gas and a match! And their stuff is organized!!!!!!!!!!!!!
