Ever wonder where the term "Rake" oriiginated from? Here is a definition of the word I had never heard before. A rake, short for rakehell, is a historic term applied to a man who is habituated to immoral conduct, frequently a heartless womanizer. Often a rake was a prodigal who wasted his (usually inhereted) fortune on gambling, winde, women and song, incurring lavish debts in the process. The rake was also frequently a man who seduced a young woman and impregnated her before leaving, often to her social or financial ruin. So, I guess pictures of a Hot Rod Rake would look quite different from the pictures we all posted... Maybe more like this fella I am guessing that the term Rake originated from something like a farmers hay rake.. ye ole big and littles look? Something like this?
It would seem we all think we've got it, or at least a picture exaggerating it. I'll refrain from posting mine.
Nice thread. Just so happens this is what I am the process of on my '31. I must say the Rake on Bull's powder Blue Sedan (posted earlier) is beautiful! I am just in the mock up stages and will be rearching the springs to fill the front fenders better in the next few days. Body just set back on to get some ideas of where it is at now. Got a couple more inches to drop to be more sinister. <center> <a href="http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/2004losPUNKRODS/?action=view&current=DSCN1193.jpg" target="_blank"></a><br/><br/> <a href="http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/2004losPUNKRODS/?action=view&current=DSCN1194.jpg" target="_blank"></a><br/><br/> <a href="http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/2004losPUNKRODS/?action=view&current=DSCN1234.jpg" target="_blank"></a> <br/><br/> </center>
I'd agree, HRP. It appears that many get the "bigs & littles" concept, but several don't catch the "rake" part of the discussion.
