Okay....Now I get the whole Hemi thing. This was my first real dragstrip experience except for a Super Chevy show when I was 10. I was absolutely blown away by how violently fast these things are. If I remember the fastest run I saw was a 5.80 @ 228 mph. The first thing I saw was this AA/FD roll up to the burn out box and touch of his blown, injected hemi. I knew it would be loud but....Holy shit!!!! I could actually feel my brain moving inside my head. My ear drums vibrated, eyes burned, it was insane. And that was just sitting in the stands. It was definitely life altering and we'll be back next year. Here's some pics, hope you enjoy.

Here's the rest. I have some video too but I'm too dumb to figure out how to post it. You'll have to wait till LuckysGal get's home and she can take care of that.

the shade beside chariotshop's 63 fairlane was nice at midday... i had a good time. tell ya what, i've heard a list a mile long that BG had alot of perks, atmosphere, shade, etc... but i won't sit in 3 hrs of traffic to go anywhere. i liked the real deal funny cars, man... it was a damned good time. only HAMBer i saw was petejoe and a fella from PA (dammit, can't think of the fella's name!) i think, though our very own john copeland won an award.

also there were only a hand full of rat rods compared to bowling green, and the atmosphere just wasnt the same, no burnouts in the camps no fourwheelers, and no riding wheelies on golf carts.

I got there Saturday around 9:30. We stayed until 3:00 when I had to go to a guys house in South Columbus to pick some stuff up. By the time I went there, dealt on some stuff, B.S.ed, got a bite to eat it was around 5:00.

We went back and yes the gates were closed. So you walked around the gates on the road into the facilities. Anyone could have showed up after 5 and simply walked in free of charge.

The gates were closed BUT there is a road wide open right next to them!

Go check out some modern drags, the cars aren't nearly as cool but a modern fuel engine puts out over 2 times the horsepower of the old ones.

After the cacklefest we were standing on the track waiting in line to get an autograph from TV Tom. He said Big Daddy's push vehicle pulled out and passed the Swamp Rat and Tommy couldn't see what was in front of him anymore. The front radius rods were bent up on Tom's car but it didn't look too bad from where we sat. While my buddy was getting his autograph, Tom was explaining the wreck to a guy from another team. He joked, "I've been wanting to get that guy for a long time." Everybody cracked up.

  25. I second this, the modern national event, cars will blow your mind.No the cars aren't as cool but every gearhead should experiance them. When my nephew was about 8yrs old,at his first fuel event,he asked his dad"is that what an earthquake feels like?" But be careful, there is no cure for "nitro fever"LOL:eek:

The nose was also crushed ... No fista cuffs between them as I was with them both when it happened. Al Bergler is already moving on the repair.

Ivo was not driving the rail that hit "Big Daddys" car. Ivo was in a little brushed alum body job. Some one was drivng the other deal for him. The one that hit had a very detailed sculpted front end tip where the steer bars are built through. Unfortunately this is the one that goes down the road in the glass enclosed show transport. Quite cool to see him. I have a B & W nostaligia movie where he is in a garage telling a reporter about kids today and drag racing about 1960's era. he must have been about 20 and a true tech/gear head. That is when he was a nailhead man.

That's usually how people recognize us. "Hey isn't that LuckysGal and that goofy lookin sucker she hangs out with?" Sure we'll run into ya one of these days. Brian's car rules, but I didn't see him or his coupe. Actually I thought the carshow part was kind of lame. Lots of pastel colors, fiberglass, and TONS of billet. I thought it was kind of patronizing during the trophy presentation when Mr. Despain kept saying "ratrod, ratrod, ratrod" and trying to educate the crowd on the "new craze."
