Is this legit? Doesn't say anything on the NHRA website that I can find I did read that Don Garlits is the man of honor this year.
As long as they're having it, I don't really care what it's called. Coupe is now pretty much road ready again so count me in.
Here is nhra press release from March 31: https://www.nhra.com/news/2023/wally-parks-nhra-nostalgia-nationals-unify-beech-bend-famoso-events
Pretty funny them calling it Wally Parks NN and having Garlits as Grand Marshall.....they were not buddies!
The CHRR has always been a the NHRA Museum production and not corporate. Its a lot of work for many people to pull it off and that with the amount of money it takes. I believe they feel by making it more of a RACE instead of a "Gathering" offers a better return on investment. Activities during the event have a time schedule to start and finish. Any interruptions during the day to the schedule, throws that into a tailspin and people tend to go home. While there will be some vintage dragsters at the event, The emphases now is directed towards the Steve & Cindy Gibbs production of the NITRO REVIVAL the following weekend & Irwindale Speedway with close to 60 vintage dragsters all running at once Saturday night followed by a fireworks show
Used to be a 15 mile drive from my Bakersfield home. Now its an 1800 mile drive from Texas. Don't think I would survive being wadded up in my Willys that long!!!
I went to every one at Bakersfield up to the 25th.... It seemed over the years the tickets costs more and you got less for it...When Steve Gibbs left it really went downhill.... It became just another race with less and less exhibition vehicles....
Agreed. Before I moved to Texas in Jan 2019 I only attended maybe half the March Meets and HHRs in later years. Dropped out of NSRA when they opened it to Yugos and VWs. I'm too old, time for me to fade away.
Ticket prices have remained the same or if you feel that they went up, So did all other entertainment ticket prices. Just the cost of doing business these days and nothing personal or greedy The State (in their ignorance) mandated no spectators during the covid years, The workaround was that if one wanted to attend, they had to buy a racers PA$$ to get in. Racers allowed-Spectators not allowed On-Track incidents are the Major cause of a sucky show--- Nobody like watching the track zamboni go up and down the track for 45minutes, That is the cost of SPEED!!!. There are only so many hrs in a day and it does not matter how much money you have--- you cant by more TIME
