around here! This may have already been posted.... It looks like they have moved the Bowling Green one to Columbus, Ohio! ...that's cool... The 2007 event moves to historic National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio, allowing more room for street rods and customs. The honorees for the 2007 Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion will be: John Abbott, Don Cain, Ted Harbit, Fred Hurst, Gary Rupp and Pat Dakin. The Justice brothers Reunion Spotlight falls on Frank Hawley. The Grand Marshal will be Jeg Coughlin. Special rates have been arranged at the headquarters hotel, the Columbus Airport Marriott. You may call 1-800-491-5717 and ask for the NHRA rate of $109 per night or visit www.columbusairportmarriott.com and enter your dates, then scroll down to Group Code and enter nhrnhra to get the group rate. Please make your reservations early. The Reunion features a fabulous array of cool drag cars, street rods and customs of the historic and present-day hot rod eras. A**** the nostalgic drag racing cl***es showcased on the track are Top Fuel, Junior Fuel, Supercharged G***ers, cl***ic Funny Cars, Fuel Altereds, cl***ic Super Stocks, and a variety of exhibition entries.
Yeah I think it ****s. I loved Bowling Green, the drive there, the hospitality, and the traffic isues everyone else griped about. Oh well. But I will probably still go anyway, And it will be a good opportunity to meet other poeple Rusty
Just hope it doesn't rain. Then you guys will have hot rod soup.Or is it stew? I've heard from too many 'experienced' people say that place is rough with water. I'd like to see it back at BG. Sorry for being a negative nancy about this.
I think it ****s also. I have been to everyone so far and I think I will miss this one. Bowling Greens track is nostalgic and it was a great place for this event. I hope they move it back.
oh ****, i opened a can of worms... i don't know all the details of the BG event....never been.......wanted to but just a bit too far for the whole family..... all i know is that the wife was marking the calendar with all the events of the summer (isn't she good!) and she came in excited about it being only 2 hours away....... but, i certainly understand the "feeling" that gets lost in a move like this.....i would rather have the nostalgia too....... besides, i'm a homebody, hate traffice and large crowds.......so i'll just have to grit my teeth until i get to the event!
NHRA made the announcement back in September. I've raced at Columbus and experienced thunderstorms, serious flooding, and even a tornado. Two years in a row we were rained out and had to drive back to Texas on Sunday, then drive back to Columbus again on Thursday to finish the race. Bowling Green has always been unique, and there's no way Columbus will have the same feel, but the reunion's about the people and cars, and it will probably still be fine...just not the same. As for hotels, there are quite a few in the Reynoldsburg area, about ten or twelve miles from the track. The host hotel is the Columbus Airport Marriott, but it's pricey, and probably full by now.
if you wanna see hot rod soup go to the g***er reunion at thompson drag raceway. bring your snorkel last three years in a row it rained like hell they arent real liberal with the vht compound either until somebody wrecks and if they decide to have another make up date bring your mittens and a snow shovel
Bowling Green is much more family friendly, even if it is a longer drive for you. There is a HUGE amusment/water park on site. The wife and kiddies can attend the show for abit then when they get bored and hot head off and go swimming while you head to the GR***Y area swap meet, pits, or COVERED grandstands. Kick *** go-cart track in town as well. I will not be heading to Columbus to attend the event this year. I want to fondly remember it like it was.
The cars and racing will be cool. I haven't been to the Ohio track, but I have been to Bowling Green HRR 3 times.I won't drive to Ohio. Bowling Green will probibly have a local event. And I'll be at the go kart track too.
National trail raceway ****s! Bowling green is a much nicer facility for this type of event, and i think it has a longer shutdown too. If the reunion stays in ohio i will not return.
I'll go.... but I hate National trail..Bg reeked of Nostagila and thats what its supposed to be about. I enjoyed the drive to BG..up and down the hills... S****s
I was at the very first HRR @ B/G and even before the event was over there were rumors that it would not return the following year because of right of way issues about getting in and out of the track. The one road in and out was a cluster ****, but at least the scenery was nice while you were waiting. We got there early and stayed late to avoid the traffic. Bowling Green with its covered grand stands and large gr***y parking is so much nicer than National Trail, which is just like most other N.H.R.A. tracks, big and impersonal, but I'm glad they were able to keep it at B/G as long as they did. I guess its been on borrowed time there since its inception........
Beech Bend will host a Hot Rod event in July. These are the same guys that are running the drag portion of Goodguys Indy. http://www.nostalgiaprocomp.com/ The town of Bowling Green has also started to work on the road issues leading to the track. There's only so much they can do though.
Man if you think moving to Nationial Trails is "getting better" where have you been ? Bowling Green IS hot rodding and racing. Columbus track ****s,always has. No shade, only way to stay cool is if it rains. And if it does rain , you better have brought a float, that place is a swamp .
bob mclane raced in the midwest (primarily in south bend, fort wayne, etc) in midgets and big cars in the 50's and early 60's. i, however, cannot find anything on him using search. what am i doing wrong.
