Bilstein Hot Rod Shocks. I have a '32 5 window, Downs body and a pro built chassis. Both ends use Posie springs. I want to buy Bilstein Hot Rod shocks, but wonder if I should use the "Sport" or "Comfort" valving? Can anyone offer their experience with these shocks?
On the front I have the Bilsteins modified be Race Cars Dynamics, their number 55-R01. I really like the way they feel on my highboy. RCD 717-566-3340.
Plenty of experience with them. The difference between the two is of course the valving. The Comfort shock is a bit softer. If you have a ride with limited suspension travel, stick with the Sport shocks. If you have the travel and desire a softer ride, use the Comfort.
Hi pprather, I replied to your note via email, but wasn't sure if you received it. So I'll say thanks again, I heard about Race Car Dynamics a long time ago, couldn't remember thier name. I appreciate you taking the time to respond! Ray
Thanks for the comments! My chassis is notched front and rear, but the transverse suspension is pretty limited. I have old worn out P&J shocks now. I'll give this some thought. Ray
I got em on my car. I really like them. The ride and handleing feel way better than the other shocks I was running.
Derb, Did you take the plunge for new shocks? I need to replace the rears, what are you guys using that you are happy with? Phil
Phil.......just rec'd my Bilstein's for the front on the 39, just sent RCD the front axle wt & resting distance eyelet-eyelet of front shocks.......their service/price was 1st rate.......local hwy truck scales helped me out w/axle wts frt & rear.....
Here is a photo of the end flap on the box my rear shocks came in. A word of caution here; you should know the weight of the car, ride height, suspension travel, etc before you order. My car is a coupe, yours a roadster...different weights. I strongly suggest you look at post #10 above and follow his advise, contact RCD. Good Luck...hope to see you at the All Deuce Run in June.
I have used Bilstein shocks before, not "hot rod" shocks. Sport or comfort valving has to do with two things what you plan to do with the car and your own personal choice as far as ride quality. Example if I had a short wheelbase cope and was planning on spending any time in the seat I would probably go with the comfort valving. If I had the same coupe and was planning on canyon carving with it and not using it for a cruiser I would go with the sport valving. Bilsteins have a tendency to be a little stiff from my experience.
