Nothing says "Put the engine here, the wheels there..oh and stuff a coupe cockpit back there somewhere" like a Cheetah. Love 'em.

I worked on one of these that had the twin paxton cammer engine, they don't run worth a crap because the air inlet to the supercharger is just below the outlet to the carb. You can see it, that hose clamp just underneath the outlet. That hoseclamp is holding a piece of cheesecloth that is the 'airfilter', it sits so tight to the cylinder head you cannot pass your finger between them, the cammer was worse than this pic.
I managed to get it to putt around well enough on the street but at throttle you couldn't get air to the engine and it'd go pig rich. I posted pics of it years ago on the hamb, it might be near the beginning on this thread. That Cobra was in the raw aluminum, never been painted.

The car pictured was tested by Road and Track Magazine back in the day and ran mid 11 second quarter mile times so it did not ran that badly, and remember this was in street trim with Goodyear Sports Car Specials so traction was an issue.

Here's the bottom end of one of them engines I am working on right now, they're a goofy bore and the crank bearing O.D. went thru changes so you have to know the year of the block. This one was a Holman-Moody built engine and each piston had the CC's (i.e. +3.55cc) engraved and dated on each piston. The '427' is cast right into the block, above the lifter bore, cross bolted mains and high tin castings. Badassed. I hope to have it back together next week.
There is no doubt that is a purpose built race engine. 004.JPG 005 (2).JPG

Brough Superior is a British motorcycle, not a car; V-Twin powered, very high end for the time. Lawrence of Arabia was known for owning one, he was killed riding it.

Sorry, wrong answer. George Brough did build cars as well. The French text in the original post is incorrect in that the engine was a straight 8 rather than a V but the rest is correct as explained here: https://revivaler.com/1935-brough-superior-4-2-litre-drophead-coupe-yard-find/

Here are a couple of cars that I think fit this thread (maybe should be in the "Specials" thread...) These 2 cars were at the TROG event in Santa Barbara over this past weekend. They are pretty famous cars built by Willis Baldwin in Santa Barbara in the late 40's - early 50's, and were campaigned successfully on road race circuits. Going through a group of 8x10s this morning and ran across this hot rod.
Shot by photographer Dave Friedman, this is A.J. Foyt at Sebring in
    March 1967. Ford GT40 MK 11B, 427. Co-driver was Lloyd Ruby.

This IS a sports car, not a hot rod sports car or special. Gary

Okay...would you like me to delete that photo, all the photos of Cobras and
the photo of the Scarab I posted? I don't recall you calling into question
the photos of Cobra roadsters and Daytona coupes.

To me, anything powered with an American 427 is a hot rod. Again, to me,
this discussion is one that can be a bit more open when it comes to photos,
titles and descriptions. Drag racer John Force used to refer to his nitro
    burning AA/FC as a hot rod. It was a far cry from a '32 hi-boy but I don't
believe too many gearheads took exception to his terminology. Funny what bothers people.

Shot at Rt 66 Raceway, Joliet Illinois. Hot rod? Drag radials. Hot rod?
Cobra. Sports car? 427. SCCA A/Production road racer? Knock-offs on
the front, bolt-on stamped steel wheels in the rear. Is this "thing" all
f****d up or a coat of many colors.

Isn't it more fun to just dig on the photos than be picayune (trivial)?
