I realize the R&C Dream Truck does not bring to mind visions of a "Hot Rod", but in reality, it is more of a hot rod than many would think. Back in 1954, the Truck received a 265 Chevy V8. Spence told me that Zora Duntov was responsible for getting the engine to California for the transplant before you could buy a '55 Chev. Later, Dean Moon would "hot rod" the engine... This would indeed make it the first Chevy engine swap. If that doesn't make it a hot rod, nothing does. Actually, the Truck first sat on a '41 Chevy chassis with an Olds V8, but it sat too low, so Spence used the frame from his personal truck, a '51 Chev.
