    Hello,

Sometimes it is time to move up to the “ready” spot for a makeover. I saw this old Chevy truck sitting in a parking lot and the next time I drove by a few months later, it was still sitting in the same place. One of the first custom hot rods I photographed in a parking lot way back in the late 60s, was a Candy Apple or Tahitian Red Chevy pick up truck.

The owner was flabbergasted that I was interested in his cool looking truck. It was his first truck and he made it close to the current favorite paint of Dark Candy Apple Red or in some circles, Tahitian Red. But, the chrome reversed rims on blackwall tires made it look great. Nothing fancy, but, just a nice looking daily driver.

The paint color in the sun was outstanding and I thought the magazines would go for the blue sky composition with the Candy Apple paint. I knew just the location for the photo shoot if he wanted to drive a few miles South from Seal Beach. It was inland of PCH in the Huntington Harbour swampy area with a dirt road running near the water.

He was reluctant to drive South, so I took some close up photos in the parking lot and luckily he was parked on the end of a row of parking spots. So, a good ¾ front and rear photo was still available. Also, a low ground level photo from placing the camera on the ground with a timed photo procedure.

The truck would have made it into the magazines, but the first editor was reluctant to include trucks as a feature. At the time it was 32 roadsters and sedans as the main emphasis of features.

This old truck in the lot brought back memories of that first photo encounter. But, it does have a place in the parking lot, still waiting for its turn to get a new makeover and run like the wind... YRMV

    Note:
