Anyone know the story on why these are seemingly impossible to get these days, backordered for ridiculously long times from every vendor I've tried? I've have a set on order w/ Coker (January)...eta 6-8 wks. That got changed to Aug 2014, then Dec 2014, now the eta update is that there is NO eta. I tried a few other places as well. I threw some cheapie smoothies on for this summer, but really want the wires. I have no idea who the supplier is for Coker, or if wheel builders are utilizing the same supplier for the hubs (this was one excuse I was given - hubs hard to get). I'm beginning to think they are made from unobtainium.
A pal of mine had a set of wires ordered for three months and canceled the order today at a local wheel and tire shop. HRP
I've been trying to get my dad inspired to let my bro-in-law and I to start a build on his '32 sedan. This morning, I sent him a photo of a deuce sedan with wires on it, floating the idea past him of putting some painted wires on his sedan. Looks like I better start scrounging around the local street rodders, who took them off to go with big wheels and rubber bands. I saw a set, a year or so ago, in the consignment area of my favorite tire dealer, but they were 14x6 & 15x7s, and I didn't have spare cash at the time.
I see "sets" on eBay from time to time, but not combo size/bolt pattern I need. still, I'd like to know what the hell is the hold up...
Gary & Jimmy (wheelkid) McLean had a devastating fire that destroyed their business - Rally America. I think they supplied some of the wheel vendors so that might be one reason. Anybody know how they are doing and if they are going back into the wheel business? I believe they lost pretty much all their dies and tooling in the fire - heartbreaking and I wish them the best of luck in getting back on their feet again.
I have a set of chrome Chrysler wires 56 spoke 6 x 15 and 8 x 15 dual Ford/Chevy bolt pattern. I ran them for less than 500 miles from new and they are mint. I used the tires on another car so it is the wheels and centercaps only. PM me if interested....
This would kind of make sense of the timing of my last notice of "no eta". I tried several times to contact them through phonecalls, emails & PMs here, w/ no luck in communication, so I went w/ Coker due to the next best price. Sucks for me if they are the builder for my order. Sounds like they are getting the business back up & running soon. Nice coupe! I appreciate the offer, but I have 15x4 & 15x6 (5x4.75 bp) on order...in primer to be coated. They sound nice, but too big for my little car/tires. Thanks!
