  1. One tattoo???

You'll be easy to spot! :D

  2. One bump and he'll need Roto -Rooter to get his bike back.

  3. That's what everyone says.

They used to say don't ink what you can't cover, the way I see it some folks would have to own a lot of cloths these days.

For sure, if he hits a pot hole it'll be scooter emema. :D

Oh I dunno I use to greet people when I was on my spare bike. I don't recall anyone getting too mad at me about it.

I bought my first Harley in 1960, and have been riding them ever since...Up until a year or so ago, I would consistently put ~12-13K miles on every summer.
I cannot verify the original meaning of that special Harley wave, but can tell you it is totally a respectful gesture, has been around for as long as I can remember, and is meant to be reserved for other Harley riders. And yes it also is used to show respect to hot rods on occasion, equal to a thumbs up.!
That picture of the Harley guy and the Gold Wingers is not accurate. I always give them a wave, but it is not that Harley hand down one. I personally don't care what you ride, as two wheels is two wheels........but there has always has been a specific bond with Harley riders, which is why this gesture is saved for only them.
Also, in the old days, when everyone said "Why don't those Harley bad guys ever wave at anyone ?".....my response was "You can't, 'cause if you take your hand off the handle bar you will never get it back on !" (due to the shaking and rattling of the old ones)
I enjoy getting after my buddies when riding with them, as they often give this wave to some of the new Jap stuff that looks more like a Harley than a Harley.....Only main difference is you can notice a radiator....:)
As far as the new group of "RUBs", or Rich Urban Bikers, they don't even know what this wave is....and no disrespect to them, as they have the same right to ride, but there is a saying that describes them in my mind that goes like this:
"So many Harley riders, but so few Bikers"
So after this long dissertation, next time you see a wave like that coming from a Biker, you can rest assured it is a gesture of respect for your ride, as well as a compliment :D
    Cheers........

  5. There's another one....

    "Bikers are a rare breed

Harley riders are a dime a dozen"

There is an old biker saying "IF I GOT TO EXPLAIN , YOU WOULD'NT UNDERSTAND.
"AMERICAN BY BIRTH , BIKER BY CHOICE"

Well , here we go , explaining something you don't understand.
There is a difference between a biker & a person who owns a bike.
You will know the biker if ya ever meet him. TRUST ME.
and i love me hod rods too.

  11. Well bob that is a lot of words to say if I don't like ya I aint wavin'. :D

I got a very old friend, old enough to be my dad old, known him all my life and if you say he is a biker he will say, " No I am a clubber and I ride a motorcycle. Bikers are those old guys in chaps and dew rags."

I hadn't heard them called RUBs before. I'll have to remember that.

    Well said my friend.

Oh I know, I just don't want or like to be defined as that, I just ride a bike, that's all.

I am finishing up a custom V twin build, made everything on it sans tires, wheels, engine and trans, Hdonlybob might get a ribbing from his buddies if he waves as it's not a Harley;)

  16. Now that's funny , because my folks told my sister if you're ever stuck, broke down or in trouble, fearing for your life - find a biker.

    Biker IMO:
    * Rides for the love of the free feeling
    * Does not cancel a ride due to weather
    * Is not afraid to ride cross country
    * Wrenches on his own bike
    * Rides a Harley, BSA, Norton, Triumph, or other Icon bike
    * Has rode most of the day, and slept in the ditch or just off the road on a blanket some time in the past
    * Has leather (or Denim) that looks like the current Stone Washed shit, but is from REAL wear over the years.
    * Will stop at an intersection to help an elderly or handicapped person across the road.
    * Tattoos optional, but preferred
    * Knows how to ride safely in a group, at most any speed or road condition
    * Always shows respect to women, whether those riding with them, along side them, or any and all others
    * Doesn't go around telling everyone how bad he is, or acting like a punk
    * And the list goes on........
And yes, I have several tattoos, and am proud to be a Biker !!
    Cheers.......

Holy S#*t, there is a secret handshake:).
I've long suspected it, but I've never been a member of the club, so i didn't know for sure.

Had an old Pan back in the 70s, but too many clowns in riding them now.
Besides the tasseled leather, official motor company approved, undies don't look very comfy to me.

It's just a wave , in an easy position, less wind than lifting your hand.

Off to buy a battery, for my 79 CBX1000.
    Now thats a MC.:D

  19. Actually its almost funny if it were not so sad but they call people that ride bicycles "bikers" these days. The term actually has lost meaning.

There was a time that if you were not an AMA type and rode that "biker" to the general public ment rude crude and socially unacceptable. Now it just means you ride anything with two wheels. Kind of like hot rodder a modern hot rodder is anyone who owns a car that is not stock. It once had meaning but in this brave new world it means absolutely nothing.

When Sonny first coined the phrase that if you don't understand there is no way for me to explain it to you he was absolutey correct. It is something that you either get or you don't, you either know or you donot know. People have tried to capture it in words but they just donot exist.

Now the term itself has no meaning, it just describes to the general public someone who rides anything with 2 wheels.

    A CBX1000 is a motorcycle club? ;)

  21. You know or you don't.
    You obviously don't.

  22. Face it!

"Real" bikers and "traditional" Hot Rods definitely have one thing in common, some folks get it and most folks don't!

And you know what.... I kinda like it that way.

  30. Yea but do you wave with 2 fingers, that's what I want to know.

hey fellas back on subject and the down low wave [not to be confused with a wave that means you go on the down low], I was riding back from the HAMB Drags with the Raven in his '27. Ya know he thinks that if he isn't running 90 to nuthin' he isn't even cruisin. I lifted my hand to wave at someone and it nearly took my arm off, it blew the bugs right out of my pits. :D
