well kinda like the halibrands but have never been much on faux rust (spent too much time tryin to get rid of rust) Primer and flats are fine, a nice red oxide would look godd along with the chop and honest to pete theres really nuthin wrong with shiney paint

If i was going to strip paint from a car to repaint it i wouldn't let it rust. He just wants it to look like **** which is just retarded to me.

Ok, I'm confused, is it a STEEL car that he stripped and rusted, or a FIBERGL*** car that was painted to look rusty?

Total guess, but I bet it is steel and he took it down to bare metal just to see what sins were under the primer. He'll paint it soon?!!!

Much worse IMHO. But really, I would've left it alone... except for the top.

    Somehow I don't think so.

Ok, so why did he change the spreader bar and pull the radiator cap or emblem or whatever off the top of the grill???

At least he didn't paint frogs on it...

  12. The aluminum wheels don't work with that look.

  13. I just spit my breakfast all over the computer :D

Not only did he rub it in dog**** . . . he fed the dogs lots of different things in order to get that nice "patina" effect --- hmmmmmmmm, let me guess:

    a) First it was the Purina . . . nice brown color.
    b) Then it was a bowl full of e-coli spinach (lots available at a cheap price). Dog really felt bad after that one . . . had a big dose of the runs.
    c) Then it was on to tomatoes and carrots
    d) Then last, but not least . . . a complete cushion from Grandma's couch . . . with a ****ty floral pattern --- ate the whole damn thing, foam and all . . . stomach was really acting up now . . .

    . . . then ****ped all over that 32.

All I have to say is that anybody who built hotrods back in the day would **** a load on themselves . . . before they'd do that to this car.

Wonder how much it cost to ruin that car?

  14. Okay . . . maybe I was a little rash . . . but I did spit my breakfast on the computer. As another said -- he who owns the car can do whatever makes him happy. But . . . what the hell, you were asking for opiniions and I just couldn't be politically correct on this one! Hope them dogs feel better soon or maybe it fill rain . . .

If it is an original all steel car, it's probably worth more in it's current state 'cause you'd know what was hiding under the primer (to him if he's keeping it and for future buyers if he's selling it). If it's faux paint, it doesn't bother me and he did a pretty good job since many of us are confused. Either way, it's just paint and not the end of the world.

It's interesting how there's a 32 roadster that everybody got wood over on another post that looks just like this. I realize that one is "original" patina. I think this guy should have left well enough alone(I've seen it in person, it looked ALOT better black) and not tried to get on the bare metal bandwagon. But, since we aren't the guy who owns it, we really don't know what he's thinking...

  19. Well I guess I can do the wheel tire combo in a pinch, but why the fake patina?

Oh I know don't tell me he wants to call it "Rust in Piece"

I just don't get it, its one thing to have one rusty if you can't afford to paint it, or to get a survivor and just clean it up with what is left of the old paint, but why ruin the existing paint just to try and fit in???

then find it was just primer painted over rust.

What did he do, dump a bucket of muriatic acid over the thing?

That's pretty far from what I would do to a '32 3-window, but I just can't hate that bodystyle. :D

Look on the bright side 36-3W, it looks like you sold him a nice car...

  22. It looks theatrical. Geez! A candidate for some new kind of "Reality Show" Either paint it, prime it, or strip it to bare metal and polish it. This is neither fish nor fowl.

Fie! Fie! I cast thee out!

I like the tire and wheel change.

The new tires and wheels would have looked great with the primer. Now though, they don't fit at all. It needs '40 wheels in any color but red, caps and blackwall firestones or at least keep what was on it before.

I agree, if you didn't know what it looked like before, everyone would be freaking out about how *****in it is. He sanded off primer/sealer... big deal. It's not like it was gloss black.

  25. well its kinda hard to say the bottom 3 window is ugly. I think there is no such thing as an ugly 32 unless its gl***. I think they both look good

2 in one week were I disagree with the status qou, I may need to find a new website where I can sheeple it up.

I like it. I think it looks better sans the flat black. Especially that it is a steel car.

Like 3wLarry said, "I'm tired of flat black".

    My $.02.

I have a rusty piece of junk truck that I never should have started on in the first place. It won't be perfect when I start driving it, but that's okay by me. As for "faux-tina"? Seems like an awful lot of time that could be better spent with the wife (or soon to be wife in my case) or my soon to be daughter. I spend way too much time fixing the holes in the floor, and straightening fenders to be wowed by people who spend so much time on looks.

I'm sure I'll sing a different tune in a day, week, or month, but right now I'm pissed that this guy would be painting over a perfectly adequate paint job rather than driving the piss out of it.

Indashop, you're a sharp guy from what I can tell, I think you're in the right... it's a nice car, regardless of the paint. What I don't like is the vanity.

  29. And the dog was force-fed with duck-liver, onions, and prunes.

Actually, I'm a huge fan of preserving patina, but I'm also unfortable with trashing good paint just to get it.
