I find my self going to less car shows each year. Partly due to weather and partly because I would rather go on a run with like minded people or just cruise around town like I did when I was younger.
When I had muscle cars and would go to the shows it seemed like half of the awards went to brand new car with bolt on parts. I have never owned a fully restored car, but I know them guys put alot of time money blood sweat and tears into them. The way I see it, they deserve the awards, trophy and plaques. If your into that.
There are definitely some good shows out there that are fun for the whole family, but give me a rod run, cruise with friends or just a rod gathering in a parking lot and it's all good.

I put on the local show, and like a lot of you, I'm not a car show person myself. Those of you who don't help, work, or organise a show should understand that the purpose of the show is not for the lawn chair types to brag about what they spent, in our case, its a small town major event, it brings in needed tourism dollars, livens up main street for the day, fun for families and old folks who can't otherwise see these cars and trucks. The profit I make from the show buys a much needed item for one or both sometimes, of the two local care homes. I would guess that the purpose behind most shows is the same, and as a guy who puts literally hundreds of volunteer hours into organising an event, I urge you to attend the small shows, passers by are genuinely interested in how your car came to be, if you take the time, you can find a small show very rewarding.
