I'm going to be in Portugal for 10 days this spring, June 6-16. I'll be staying with a few buddies in the town of Santa Cruz. (Type Santa Cruz, Lisboa, Portugal to find it on Google Maps). I was wondering if there are any HAMBers that live in that area or in Lisbon (might spend a day or two there) or if there are any car related things worth checking out?

Hope to hear of something car related of interest!

    Well, hi there!

What a surprise to find someone asking about my little corner of the world!

I won't be of much help locating rods because as far as I am aware, there is very little such movement here, but I'll relay this back to a friend who's more active in the kustom scene to see if he knows of anything interesting you could visit.

I live a bit further away from the seaside (near the spanish border, in fact), and my rod is nothing but a dirty old Deuce sitting in the garage at the moment waiting for cash and a plan, but if you decide to take a detour into the countryside I'll be more than happy to give you a welcome.

    Cheers, Eddie

I dont know about car related stuff but Lisbon is a very cool city and very old. Dont be afraid to try some of the local cuisine. Great food and wine. Its nothing like the states. Enjoy

I figured there wasn't a huge scene going on over there, but I thought I'd at least throw a line out and see. And I don't know if we'll be your direction at all, but if I can convince the boys to take a little trip to Spain, I'll shoot you a PM and see if we can meet up. Love to see that old Deuce, even if its just pieces!

Don't you worry Double Caddy, I'm planning on enjoying the food and wine!
As for Lisbon being a cool old city, my buddy has been there before, and as the 3 of us are all history graduates from university, we're counting on enjoying some of its historical nature. But thanks for the advice, we're both thinking alike.

Dear friend: there is life in the rust side here in Portugal...

If you are coming to Santa Cruz, you should not miss the "rei da Sucata" junkyard ("King of S****") only 3 miles from Santa Cruz, in Brejenjas: something like madmax.

In Sintra you could find some cool rides. I can show you some nice places for "petrolheads".

And in Amoreira, near Óbidos, its a cool vw garage:"oldschoolgarage.com"

And you can go into the "wild south west", the long beach coast south of river Sado to Algarve. Nice roads, open spaces, lots of people in hippie style.

    Have a nice trip!

Sorry I wasn't able to give you a shout while I was in Portugal. I was expecting to have internet, but I didn't... Just got back from there, and you have yourself a beautiful country!

Thanks for all the great leads! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to follow up on any of them... Our group of 3 had a party crasher who kind of demanded we go to a lot of places and set the plans for the trip. I was in Obidos, but didn't get to stop in Amoreira, and I spent 3 days in Santa Cruz (instead of the 7 I thought I would) and I didn't have time to get down to the King of S**** junkyard. I'm really disappointed...

Thanks for everything though! Maybe I'll have to come visit again, just so I can check that stuff out :)

Not a problem, but you're welcome... anytime you have a chance to get back on this side of the pond, drop me/us a line and we'll sort something out.

Glad you liked your stay, despite the altered plans... it is a lovely country indeed, even if I say so myself.

    Cheers, Eddie

Ok then, in September Sherri and I are going to the Braga/Guimaraes/Porto area. My first trip there. Thanks for the tips. Later. Slim
