Hot Rods of the dry lakes era. Then & Now picture Thread.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jimmy B, Jan 10, 2008.

  1. I love the dry lakes era, the cars were so purposeful, they were not pretenders or show ponies, they weren't raced for fame or money just built to go as fast as possible.

Anyone that has pictures of dry lake cars that raced in the periods of the three spring era (mid 30s-1941) & the dry lakes era (1946-1955) to post then & now pics. Cars such as Modifieds, Roadsters, Coupes, Lakesters, Streamliners etc.

    Thank you.

    I'll start

Jimmy B, thanks for starting this post. I will apologize up front. I just joined yesterday and if I dont get the photos correct, I will eventually. I have attached photos of another Dick Kraft roadster. This one a 1932 Ford he raced at El-Mirage in October of 1948. Went 121 mph. I have had the PLEASURE of speaking with Mr. Kraft on a few occations about the car. It was probably the last 32 he raced. (Too Heavy compared to the T). It was sold, then Dick coordinated the purchase of the car to Ralph Potter, a mid-west show promoter who gave it away at the 2nd annual Indianapolis Auto Show in 1951. My grandfather, the late Bill Bronson purchased the car in October of 1953 and it has been in our family ever since. Bill Bronson
