sounds like a condenser. change the points and condenser.

Could be the starter getting hot. Could also be a vacuum lock in your fuel line if its to close and getting hot.

I had a similar problem with my 54 235. I had a badly adjusted choke. With the low 6 volts and lousy ignition it was a pain in the ass to restart at times. I quickly fixed that problem by going 12 volts and HEI ignition. She starts quick and runs great.

I have had a similar problem with fuel puddling in the intake. I had to rebuild the carb an adjust the float. Next time you go out for a drive, pop the carb off the intake and see if you have gas puddled up in the bottom of the intake. Once you get home of course!

    Just something to check.

Looks like the answers are all over the board. I just fixed one of these for a friend after a rebuild. The valves are too tight. Loosen them up and check it out.
The valves are ok cold and when hot they stay open not allowing the engine to start....

Is the heat riser on the exhaust manifold stuck open? What about the Heat riser for the choke and is the choke adjusted properly?

Had a similar problem with mine. turned out the valves were sticking. The symptems: not starting after warmed up and shut down (cranking but not starting) untill about an hour went by it would start right up. Also I installed a temp guage and found that it was running way too hot. put some Marvels in tank and sloshed it around and it wasnt an issue anymore...also ran normal temps. Hope this helps.

Are you running ethanol? That was my exact problem. Went to 100% gas and my problems were solved.

Will it start if you put a 12V jumper battery on it? If it does, I'd change it over to 12V.
