I got started back in the 50's with AMT's & Revell kits. Have a bunch of Hot Wheels on a wall and a couple garages of full size toys out back. Just a collector of all sizes.
had all the hot wheels from the first couple of years, will never forget saving up the money to buy them.. $1.03, I was 5 or 6 years old, still have a few of the orriginall ones with the red stripe tires, collected for a while in the '80's, bought a few at flee markets, I have a decent collection now and some orriginal Hot wheels carrying case's, and a complete Sizzler track.
Yesterday I found a T-hunt '36 coupe at Autozone! I think the hardcore collectors know just when the big box stores stock the shelves and are there waiting. I'm not that serious. The other T-hunt I found recently was at a grocery store.
The '36 coupe, the '49 Merc and the '57 Plymouth Fury are the definate picks of the new Treasure Hunts.
I just designed my first Hotwheels car! Litteraly this week. been workin for Mattel for years and being head of design for Matchboix I never got a chance to work on the cars I really love...when I got the chance I jumped at it. Cant post any pictures yet cos it's still secret but I can tell you its a themed '60's show rod.....I'll post pics when I can. I'm a very proud guy at the moment. totaly stoked. F
i sold about 7000.00 bucks worth of hot wheels to finish my 56 f100. now i just collect the 56 hi-tail haulers.
Very Cool. I can relate the feeling you have-when a friend of mine won the Designer Challenge at GM and had his car picked to be made a HotWheel, it was like he had a baby every few minutes with a big smile on his face, even he made a giant cardboard and plaster scale of it as he was designing it. At the end, when we see it in the Toy stores we all smile and say "Chevrolator", with a Purto Rican accent. Congrats!
That guy is very cool and the real deal and very very into Hot Wheels. His "Toy" room is AMAZING, and he lets everyone act like a kid with 'em...even the rare ones
I knew a guy that only collected F100 models. Anything at all to do with F100's. I never realised just how much stuff there was out there. His collection was amazing. After a marriage breakup the whole collection was sold off cheap. I sold a lot of my models a few years back when we sold the big house we had and downsized but, kept all my hot wheels, all my 1/43 scale and the other stuff I really liked. I sold over 300 1/18 scale models at the time. Wish I had never sold any of them. I should have put the lot into storage. My wife says I still have way too many models but then I say that about the things she collects.........
My first "real" cars were Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, and I still have some from back in 1967 - 1968 that I got as a kid! Definitely NOT O/T!
I guesss you could say I collect them. I don't go looking but if they pop up at an auction/yard sale etc. I'll pick some up. Don't really care about the packaged ones; I would rather have the ones that were played with and some fun was gotten out of. I buy all the old body styles but I really like the Sedan Deliviries and the Real Ryders. My Black 34 coupe with real ryders is my favorite. I also collect the Matchboxes especiallly the gray wheels and if they have the box they came in its even better. 48 Poncho
I grew up w/alot of them. I always saw atleat 5 of the sought after "Red Barrons" and some others. We caked the wheels full of playbox sand and didn't care. Yet...as of late, they have been doing some drag strip stuff. I have the Tommy Ivo AA/F, and a Beebe and Mulligan. I even found a Dave Strickler. I also found a box set w/ the Hawaiian funny car and Ohio George Montgomery's car. The dude also showed me a Stone, Woods, and Cook car in a box set "of shit", but I won't pay $25 for matchbox cars when I only wanted one. So be it.
Did you know that there is a Hot Wheels car released this year that is the same as your avatar? Almost the same color too!
That's so cool! I know how you feel! I just spent the weekend with Larry Wood and Phil Riehlman in CT. Tell Phil I had a great time when you see him! Mike
Hell yeah I collect me some hot wheels. I have a rather small collection, around 300 or so. I am like anyone else, I am into redlines. I like variations and T-hunts.....but really, I will buy anything that looks bad ass. Also, how can anyone consider Hotwheels to be O/T here? Thats what got me into to this shit.
I have about 4000 hot wheels right now, they are my cheap fix for all the cars I want to just run out and buy.
I haven't collected much of anything for the last 10 years or so, but I do have around 1,500 Hot Wheels from the 90's. I also collected a lot of the cooler Johnny Lightnings and Muscle Machines (mostly muscle cars and mostly Mopar, but also some Chevy and Ford). If anyone needs anything specific you can message me. I JUST finished moving so it could take a week or two but I'll get back to you when I get a chance to dig through the boxes...
diffently not on the same level as you guys with teh hotwheels, but i do have some some of these special troy lee desined numbered models. troy designed these fro hotwheels and they only made 1000 each year a he also made 500 for his good dealers. if you notice some of the color combos are different, that would be the difference of the limited dealer ones and the regular. anyone have a guess as to what these would bring cash wise? ive seen them sale for pretty big money on ebay.
