I bought a 1950 Packard but the previous owner did not have keys for it. I wanted to see if it would run so I hot wired it.....(jumper wire from negative battery terminal to coil and starter button to solenoid) anyways it did start!!! A great sign and very exciting!!!! However....as the car was running I noticed that it was in drive the whole time! Is that because I bypassed the ignition? Why would the engine run while in gear, but not drive???
1 no ring gear 2 no pinion gear 3 no pinion bearinges 4 no drive shaft 5 no trannsmision 6 no gears in transmision 7 no out put shaft in tranmision 8 no input shaft in transmision 9 no frictions left in tranmision 10 no tranny fluid in transmision 11 no troque converter 12 no torus 13 no presure plate 14 no clutch 15 no bolts in flywheel 16 no bolts in flexplate 17 no rear end 18 no axles 19 you didnt have it in 4x4 20 because the sky is blue could we have a little more information please??
An option in 48 - 50 was the electromatic clutch... "The car's power, or what little it has, is transmitted to the rear wheels via an Electromatic clutch, an electrically operated gearshift selector and semi-automatic clutch arrangement." Could this be the problem, since you did not have the ignition switch on?
UltramaticDrive Transmission full of fluid.....but the engine turns over and rund while in drive....yet goes nowhere. My question was is there any reason why hot wiring would cause this....because Iam bypassing the ignition?
no not really .... and you are not techniclly bypassing the ignition you are backfeeding it. all should still work. Id focus on the tranny. a running engine is a decant start how long was it sitting?
silly Question but did you cycle thru all the gears? d indicator is not always accurate. that car is so simple it has to be in trans/tourque converter try adding trans fluid.
